So far it will be Sept. The SW remastered vinyls will be sold together as a bundle (The best remaster Ian's ever heard) And there will also be a 5.1 blu-ray released but prob not with the vinyl. So look forward to shelling out alot o bucks! Will be great to hear though. Not sure if any archive stuff will be included. Somwhere in the package EMI plan to use the band crew picture from 1973 (as seen on one of my passion play 8mm videos) Pat would probably know more details when they come about? Unless Steven Wilson starts spilling the beans

Thanks Tulltapes. Makes sense if the blu-ray is separate from the vinyl since many people will want one but not both. That was a legitimate criticism of the Aqua set, so let's hope that happens. I think I read that quote from Ian too and if it is the best re-master he's ever heard it stirkes me that an opportunity is being missed for a companion 'deluxe' cd to the taab2 deluxe version, especially with the tour in the US coming up. But I guess it will all be on the blu-ray anyway. But what about the folks who can play neither blu-ray nor vinyl? Anyway, it won't be long until we get something official.

Steven Wilson has only given details of the release date: October 15. https://twitter.com/StevenWilsonHQ/status/220307397674147841
I would suspect we will get the same packaging as the Aqualung reissues, which would mean a 2CD special edition and a 4-disc collector's edition, the only difference being that the TAAB collector's set may or may not contain vinyl if there is to be a separate vinyl release of TAAB 1 & 2 combined. So besides 2CDs, expect the 5.1 mix, new (and old) stereo mix, and bonus tracks to be on DVD and Blu-Ray disc in the box set. Also, the March 2012 edition of PROG magazine had an extensive interview with IA and band on TAAB, so expect this to be included in the ~50 page book (just like it was for Aqualung). Hopefully, we will get "official" information on all of this by the end of the month.

Potentially Good/Bad news from SW's Facebook:
"My 5.1 mix of Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick" should also be released around the same time (as LTIA) as part of a 40th anniversary edition of that album (I'm not sure of the formats on that one yet, but most likely a more modest CD/DVDV combination)."
Ok, so the good news about that post is that people should be able to get the 5.1 mix for this one rather inexpensively (unlike Aqualung). The (potentially) bad news is that there may not be Blu-Ray this time around if the package is more modest.

I wouldn't expect too much in the way of an all singing all dancing package.....to paraphrase the words of Mick Hucknell 'Money. seems to be too tight to mention'.
I was pretty disappointed by the reaction of EMI as regards potential content. So, don't expect too much more than stuff you may have already seen, Images are likely to mainly be Didi Zill's images, those previously seen in his book, possibly a few that never made the final cut, but no certainty on that.
'Administrative mix up' is a phrase that springs to mind....well, it isn't really, but I don't want to get the board in breach of any proboards terms of use.

I was hoping that we would see something of definitive quality and historically in context given the centrality of the album to the JT canon of work. Something broadly along the lines of the Deep Purple MH release but obviously fewer actual discs... (see This link - which may not work.)

I sent Steven a message via his Facebook page, and I GOT A REPLY! Here's what he had to say: "well i am guessing about the TAAB reissue, based on the fact that TAAB2 was only released as CD/DVDV. I was pleasantly surprised with what they did for Aqualung, but all the blu-rays you mention were only included as part of expensive deluxe sets of hugely successful albums that continue to sell year in / out to a large mainstream rock audience, and I think their expectations for TAAB will be more modest. Of course I could be wrong, record companies work in mysterious ways!"

Thanks. I just can't believe how close we are to the US tour and no announcement.

So in that case, if I can find a good webpage or email address, it might not be a bad idea to send "nice" messages to EMI regarding our requests for Blu-Ray.

I've been discussing it with Tim Chacksfield at EMI on and off for a bit of time, sending and offering EMI some pretty unique stuff from Board members. But the packaging and images are already well in train and a photo deal struck which suits the budget [see earlier post].
If the packaging is sorted then you can bet your bottom dollar, quid or yen that the musical contents are also done and dusted and lobbying by anyone, whoever we are ain't going to change the position at the House of EMI.
I also suspect that he or any of his compatriots wouldn't take too kindly to a flush of e-mail messages from disgruntled Tull fans all wanting something that his budget wouldn't allow anyway.
I would also think that it might be a tad late or possibly even a bit of a wasted effort. Whilst some of us revel in the sonic elements of the Aqualung Collectors Edition who knows whether it was consdered enough of a commercial success by EMI to warrent the same degree of enthusiasm for a TaaB package.

That really is a shame. I assumed for most of this year that we would get a deluxe box set similar to Aqualung (with Blu-Ray), given the importance of TAAB in the Tull catalogue, but I guess nowadays with major labels, you can't assume they'll do anything...

Who knows, we might yet get a bumper pack, I strongly doubt though that it will contain any video or film material, there was a limited budget as regards photographs and such and an 'administrative error' at EMI [my polite description] meant that they lost out on an opportunity to access some pretty nice unreleased images, plumping instead for the reuse of the excellent, but possibly previously seen images, from Didi Zill's shoot of that time.
I suspect some text from the tour programmes will resurface in the package, but having said that I'm still going to be like the snotty nosed kid pressed up against the sweet shop window, drooling over an updated and remodelled TaaB.

Oh, I definitely wasn't expecting any video or film material in this package, cause the point of having Blu-Ray in the set is to access the highest possible sound quality for the new (and old) stereo mixes as well as the 5.1 surround (and bonus tracks).

Is there any eyesight, insight, or foresight on any previously unreleased material included?
