You'll be lucky to get a message of any sort from Ian! There was a time when we would get a website message update from Ian every few months. Then it dropped to a couple of times a year, then a couple of years it was just a message around Christmas. These days he clearly can't be arsed to engage with his fans. He's bloody well lucky to have so many fans who are still very interested in what he does and what he has to say. At the very least he could make a bit more effort.

Here's what Ian would have said if he had time:
Dearest Tull Fans everywhere,
I am presently resting my voice which has been getting a real workout as of late. (interviews, Cathedrals) As most of you are aware, this next year will push new boundaries on what I have yet to finalize. Please be patient for it will be a whole new world for all of us. I hope to add more performances and new material to what you have come to expect as Tull. Unfortunately Martin Barre will not be involved with this project and I wish him all the best. What you will see are very different interpretations of old classics like "Thick as a Brick". This is an enormous effort and I hope you all will be satisfied with the result.
Although I have done this for many years, I want to create something that will last for many more. We all have families and I needed time to be with mine. God Bless you all no matter which God you prefer. Happy New Year too cause I'll be back to Kick Some More Ass! Your Friend Forever, I.A.
p.s. thanks to Jim Sandler Brooks Korman for helping post this.
i thought there'd at least be a plug for the 40th anniversary release of a 17-CD [3 discs of Dr. Bogenbroom alone!] of Living In The Past
Yes those too will be included in the 5.1 Blu-ray version of "Living In The Past". Then I will focus on the 5.1 Blu-ray "A Passion Play" with never before heard discussions inside the studio. This may take a little longer to remix because I haven't found all the tapes yet. Also the complete intro video from the live performances dedicated to Ms. Jane Eve Colthorpe. Stay tuned, I.A.

Na, this is the real message from Ian.

Having signed a new record deal with EMI those folks finally convinced me to record a new record. I was hoping I wouldn't need to and instead rehash the rest of my previous albums with pompously improved sound marketing. I would of course write some witty new liner notes. But alas a new album was required before they would release my advance that I want to use to add a further 7 toilets to my huge house that Shona and I occasionaly spend time together in. The good news is I finanly manged to get rid of that Martin Barre. He was way too expensive. I have been trying to get rid of him since 1980 but no matter how much abuse I gave him he just kept coming back for more. I now have that German kid on Guitar who is more than happy to play for £50 a night as long as I cover his Ryan Air fairs. This saving will enable Shona and I to buy the gold plated Aga which has diamonds in the hot plate lids which is very fitting for a man of my stature.
You'll no doubt be looking forward to my Thick As A Brick tour next year. I'm very pleased because it means I don't actually have to pay the band to rehearse the new material I've been recording. Instead we can just play the same old shit and those mugs hard core fans will still buy tickets along with the dum fucks who come along thinking my name is Jethro.
So that's the news. Now, I need to sign off and get back to the Aga rep, he's waiting in one of my five kitchens.

Ouch!
I think I used to post things like that.
Ah it wasn't meant as a mean attack, just a bit of tongue in cheek British humour. I'm as big a fan as the next guy, well maybe not as big as Jim, he really digs Ian

Guilty as Charged! I even talk to Ian when I have weird dreams from all the Tylenol I'm taking. After this tour I want to get a job as his Public Relations man. Ian where are you? Leave me a voicemail or pm soon! P.S. I need a pro-shot dvd from the "Passion Play" gig I went to in '73.

I actually believe both messages, especially the one about Martin, which doesn't really surprise me at all.

It may be good that Ian has disinterest in all of this right now. He might come around to it again with renewed vigor. Maybe vigor isn't the right word.. renewed... stuff...

You are a bunch of arseholes. If a release is going to be made of one of Tull's past albums, then it'll happen without IA's participation. Like a lot of bands, the rights are owned by the record label, and THEY are the ones trying to squeeze the last few pounds from what they own. Why blame Ian Anderson for it?
Ian has also said in interviews that he used budget flights to keep touring costs down which means... the ticket prices can be kept down. So what do you want? The band touring in luxury and you paying twice as much per ticket?
I've just removed myself from the Facebook page for this forum as I got sick and tired of seeing nothing but abuse hurled at Ian Anderson. I've no doubt he's not perfect, but the attitude of some of the so-called fans is utterly repulsive! Get a life and go and listen to another band FFS.

I can accept the argument that EMI have a big say in the re-release of old material but Ian has always been an active and seemingly willing participant in the process.
I can accept the argument that lower travelling costs could result in lower ticket prices, but then the fact that the higher levels of ticket price may deter the new 16 year old fans that Ian says he would rather play to these days, add to that the reality that Tull or Ian may not be of sufficient stature these days to fill out venues that bring in the bigger bucks and you may have another part of the equation.
I can't quite take the argument that anyone on the board, irrespective of their opinion, is an arsehole, lest because they have an opposing opinion and use the Board voice it.
All views can be expressed here from the extreme ends of the Tull fan spectrum, from the 'Ian can do no wrong brigade' to the 'WTF is going on with Ian'. All true fans are welcome here, exclusion here is only at your own discretion, unlike other chat arenas.
Rather than exclude yourself from the FB page why not simply put your aguments forward, or show some tolerance to someone who holds a differing opinion.

C'mon, Park Bench, please don't leave our FB page or the Board! There's plenty of praise of Ian and Tull there and here, to go along with the criticism and poking fun. We are after all, hardcore Tull fans.
I think it's only natural when you follow an artist for so long, like we all have, to have some mixed feelings about the artist, just like Ian does about his fans. It's like a marriage in some ways. There are things you do to piss each other off, but deep down you still love each other.
Like Quizz said, all you need to do is state your opposing viewpoint, preferably in a respectful manner. But you know something, there's nothing wrong with calling us a bunch of arseholes either, if that's how you feel. Sometimes you just need to use the word. Unlike other boards, you can do that here without fear of being "banned" by overbearing, self-important "Global Moderators."

Meh, I'm an arse for sure. I love this board because of the news and the differing opinions. Can't wait to follow both Ian and Martin's paths - wherever they lead!

Considering the cost of albums and collector sets, everyone has issues with marketing. However, everyone has favorite past members that they would hope were still a part of Tull. If you feel betrayed by the evolution of Tull, that may be more emotional loyalty. I find all views equally valid because we have some very loyal fans and want things beyond our influence. I love Ian and Martin for being the creative musicians they are continuing to be. Ticket prices are only expensive in relative terms (how much we can afford). Based on what I have been willing to pay, Tull has always been worth it.
Criticism of Ian Anderson is sometimes a little heated because with the Official website, information has been confusing. When the idea of Martin going out and touring with his own version of Tull arose, some feel a personal sadness. I hope we can all heal after this seperation and not be too angry. Jeff is right, being a Tull fan for so many years is like a marriage. If you let things out in the open, usually we can work out the rest. Earlier I posted about getting Gerald Bostock autographing my 5.1 TAAB. It really would be a nice autograph to have along with the band. Now it may be a lot harder for me to travel to the U.K. I can still dream.
