 Eat Hermione for Lunch

From TAAB2, 'Banker Bets Banker Wins'. Any thoughts as to the meaning? Please, not a reference to Harry Potter! I'd like to think it's just some vintage Ian lewdness

I think Ian moved his money to another bank, and the director got into some type of financial trouble. That's what I hear anyway. :-X

I don't think it would be so bad if it was a reference to Harry Potter. If it is, it's certainly not in an in-the-story fan context, but in a tongue-in-cheek social context.

I wasn't sure if Hermione might not be some exotic British dish which we in the States haven't heard of [Fray Bentos Pie was news to me!]

Holy schnikies! That photo is of our receptionist from my company's last picnic back in 2009. Needless to say the picnics have been canceled ever since.

I don't know if anyone has noticed this in the midst of all your shenanigans, but there is a small reference to Hermione on the St Cleve website:

http://stcleve.com/messages.html

It's the fifth paragraph from the top.

What does it mean? The lyrics of: Banker Bets banker Wins? They are some of the most challenging and complicated lyrics I personally have ever encountered, but then again… I am a Danish citizen. MBA is an education which stands for: Master of Business Administration, but what does “a doddle mastered” mean? Doddle means: An easy task. Mastered means: perfectly understood. In other words: An easy task perfectly understood. (So far so good…) Does he mean that it is easy to accomplish this education? Or what? Does anybody have an answer? The questions are numerous when it comes to the lyrics of Banker Bets, Banker Wins. This is just one of them. He is using cocaine: Snort a line. And “Liquid Gold is a brand of Poppers. At least I think so. Poppers are used during sex. It is sniffed and provides the user some kind of momentary high. Ian Anderson: “Liquid Gold in safe ascendance.” This leads me to believe that this banker is sniffing Liquid Gold (Poppers) during sex, with someone he dominates. Since ascendance is another word for dominance, this being done in a safe environment. You’re comments are most welcome.

Regardless, all you pundits, haha..........."Banker....." is such a great song! Makes me happy. I only recently got TAAB2 as I'd written off Tull a while ago (as Jeff knows) .....but this album has renewed my faith as there are fine songs on it. I now want more NEW stuff.........totally new.........w/out reference to past stuff

As with all of Ian's works, there are snippets which link to a good old fashioned double entendre, some of his own very well crafted double entendre's and some downright, hit you straight beteeen the eyes, overt sexual references.

The song relates to bankers and the banking scandals they created and the chorus highlights the excesses and profligate use of wealth, fast cars, drugs and sex.

Hermione is mentioned several times thoughout the whole 'concept', read the sleeve notes, visit the website etc...

It's meaning is likely to be related to the act of oral sex* being performed on Hermione at.... lunchtime.

[*Not 0RA1 53X, that's a car number plate].

His MBA was a doddle because his education wa micro-managed! I reckon he bought his degree, or at least used (family?) connections to get through it more easily than he should have - making him a "fluky (lucky) bastard", on the way!... Hermione is either Gerald's wife or mistress or even (my favourite!) the glum PA, who he shags in his lunch hour! The clue is in the fact that they go to a show afterwards. I don't know why anyone would think she's underage - the name's been around a bit longer than Harry Potter! It's a handy "posh girl"'s name that goes with the banker's status... "Liquid gold in safe ascendence" refers to the reletive security of the reserve currencies in the previous line... That's my take on it!

Okay! Here it is! From the sleeve notes of TAAB2. Thanks to the Quizz Kid! "Eat Hermione for lunch" is having sex with Hermione Parrit-Jones. Probable oral sex as the Quizz Kid mentioned!

Madame Seductress.
Hermione Parritt-Jones is set to appear for the international publication Madame-X Magazine Summer Swimwear edition in June. Already shot in Antigua, Barbados and Weston-super-Mare, the photos show the 19 year-old ex-Eastonbirt College schoolgirl in a variety of fashion-wear. Recently grounded by parents Roger and Huffy for spending several nights up in London without permission, she has been given the green light to postpone, for now, her university studies in order to pursue a modelling career. Headmistress Diane Polyp-Duckworth of Eastonbirt reluctantly agreed that “irons don't stay hot forever, so best strike while there is still fire in the old oven.”

Hermione completed work experience at Credit Uzbek Investment Bank, Canary Wharf, last Summer and chose modelling over her original plan to seek an MBA at a prestigious Massachusetts Business College. Her mentor at Credit Uzbek, Mark Caddish received a £12,000,000 bonus last year although much of this was in deferred stock ownership and off-shore bullion. Inland Revenue are “interested” in his earnings and tax declarations over the last few years.
