Finally found some time and energy to write review of Ian's show in Berlin's Tempodrom, last Sunday, exclusively for The Jethro Tull Board!
The musicianship was excellent, band was very tight. They learnt so lots of complicated progressive music, note by note, what a competent players they are!
Ian made some little mistakes here are there, the most obvious was problem with his acoustic guitar in beginning of "Kismet In Suburbia". Florian Opahle turned out to be guy with great reflex - he decided just in a few seconds time to play Ian's riffs on his electric Gibson Les Paul guitar.
Some parts of original "Thick As A Brick" made my eye-corners bit wet. If somebody would tell me two years ago that I'll hear Ian playing entire suite, I simply couldn't believe it! Amazing experience. Video stuff was fun, as was Skype connection with violinist Anna Phoebe and prostate examination in middle of original "TAAB" with Tom Lynch of the Merchandising Stand.
Playing all the new stuff (TAAB2) in second half without encore was performers' very brave decision, I think. It worked out very good.
However, it was my personal mistake and effect of childish unpatience, to listen to boots from this tour few weeks before the concert. It made this event less exciting, I exactly knew what to expect... One major change from recordings I've heard was Ian's attempt to sing "Do you believe in a day" section.
Addition of extra singer and actor Ryan O'Donnell was decent but also rather strange...
The sound in Tempodrom was OK, but too quiet. And I was quite tired after all night's 10 hours in bus (it's over 600 kilometers from Warsaw to Berlin)...
Ian was kind enough to sign autographs and pose to pictures after the concert. I said "see you in Poland in August, in Zabrze" and David Goodier asked me to teach him how to pronounce name of this city correctly. "Zabrze". He was quite successful in this! Nice bloke!
I met fine German woman for who it was 14th Ian's gig... this year! Does it mean she's bigger fan than me? Hmm... I think she's just richer ;-)
It was very surreal experience to meet Czech Tull fan named Rene, before the concert. He noticed me and started to shout: "Lukas Was! This is Lukas Was!". I never met this guy before whether personally or even via net. I still don't have a f*cking idea how he recognized me... Wow, I am famous ;-)
All in all - great evening, fantastic currywurst and chilled German Warstainer beer!
You just have to attend upcoming US tours, guys!

Lukas

Great review and really glad you enjoyed it. it's a big problem trying to stay away from all the advance youtube clips, the boots and other snippets, but glad they didn't spoil things too much.

As for your new found fame.....will you be charging us to talk to you soon?

Any photo's?

All the best

Pat

Great review and thank you Lukas!

I have stayed away from listening to live recordings for exactly that reason. I want to hear it live first.

And also because Ian's vocals seems to sound better live than they do on the recordings.
