enjoyed this and had not seen it before great idea for a thread
Preston, Glad you're enjoying it. Unfortunately, not all the versions I have will be accompanied by live performances of the song.
While I convert a couple of obscure tracks I have for uploading here's a more recent renditon of Living in the Past. From the tribute album, 'To cry you a song', this is Kieth Emerson and a few others dishing out their version of a classic.....

Billie Davis is an English female singer who had hits in the 1960s, and is best remembered for the UK hit version of the song, "Tell Him" (1963) and "I Want You to Be My Baby" (1968).
In February 1963 she had her biggest success with the cover version of The Exciters' "Tell Him". Her version of "Tell him" reached number ten in the UK chart, and was followed by "He's The One", which crept into the Top 40 in May 1963.

Probably one of my more 'favoured' versions.
Cud are a British indie rock band formed in Leeds, England in 1987, consisting of vocalist Carl Puttnam, guitarist/keyboardist Mike Dunphy, bassist William Potter , and drummer Steve Goodwin.
Accordong to wikipedia, on 27 April 2008, Cud announced that their final ever gig would take place in Leeds on 3 May 2008. To commemorate the event, a limited-edition CD single was sold, which was supposed to feature a new recording of "Punishment-Reward Relationship", along with live versions of "Now!", "Only", "Living in the Past" and "Strange Kind of Love". This was distributed as a blank printed CDR with the tracks to follow shortly afterwards. To date the songs have not been forthcoming.

This is a great thread. I think LITP is one of the most frequently covered Tull songs. So far, the only one I am familiar with is the Midge Ure version.
I like this one by Cud a lot. It sounds a bit like a cross between LITP and the theme from Mission Impossible. Great to see our banner inscribed on the video, too!

The Connell's - Living in the past.
Guitarist Mike Connell formed the band in 1984 along with his brother David Connell on bass, Doug MacMillan on vocals, and future filmmaker John Schultz on drums.
This initial four-piece line-up was quickly supplemented by the addition of George Huntley on second guitar, keyboards, and vocals. Around the same time, former Johnny Quest drummer Peele Wimberley replaced Schultz, finalizing this line-up
Connell and other members of the Connells band were in part influenced by then-contemporary British bands such as The Smiths and Echo & the Bunnymen. Another, more idiosyncratic, influence was the British progressive rock band Jethro Tull, whose song “Living in the Past” was covered by the Connells on 1995's New Boy EP. [source wikipedia]

Morley Hale - Living in the past
Not masses of detail about Morley Hale, other than I think he is an independent artist, who may be multi-talented, multi-disciplined actor David Morley Hale, who cites music as one of his many talents. This possibly edges in as my favourite cover version.
This version of LITP may have received it's first national radio play on Tom Robinson's BBC 6music show on 16th January '09!

Maynard Ferguson did a version it around 1975 or so I have it somewhere
Charlie
That would be great, I don't have that version and would like to hear it if possible, even a scan of the album cover on which it appears would be appreciated.

I bought The Connells CD years ago, solely for their cover version of LITP, which I thought was okay but not great, and I didn't care for the rest of the album.
I owned it until recently when we were de-cluttering our apartment and getting rid of lots of unwanted stuff, tons of childrens' clothes, toys, books, CDs, etc., which we donate to a church thrift shop down the street.

Pat I just went into the vault, and found the album, it was on Columbia 31117, I am going to rip and I will send the Living in The Past to you. I have tried to post MP3 before with no luck at all, If someone tells me how I will give it a try.

For you [and others] here s the lengthy Maynard Ferguson cover version of LitP.
Enjoy.
......and there's still a few more to come along yet
