Dr. Strangely Strange were an experimental Irish folk group, formed in Dublin in 1967 by Tim Booth (born 6 September 1943, County Kildare, Ireland), vocals and guitar, and Ivan Pawle (born 17 August 1943, England) bass and keyboards.

jioffe,
thanks for implicating on this thought. About the next subject for April whichever of these before remarked should be already decided , anyway and although we're still 10 days ahead to pick, we shouldn't rest on ourselves' laurels, "the new BRICK is around the corner", which will have all of us completely bewitched ;D. And if in any case no one responds we'll have to display a democratic poll ;D

GUNS - PAUL'S
ASTRONOMICAL TERM'S - CHARLIE'S
DEATH AND MURDER - JEFF'S
MADNESS - JIM'S (aka jtull07)
SPRINGTIME, FORESTS, NATURE IN GENERAL - SERGE'S

How about any news one more?

Fabulous find, zombywoof

H.P. Lovecraft - The Drifter . Psychedelia from 1967

I envy the ship sailing out of your harbours
I swap dirty jokes with your butchers and barbers
I think silent thoughts while the jukebox is playing
And all of the time my own heart is saying

H.P. Lovecraft - The White Ship

The white ship has sailed and left me here again
Out in the mist, I was so near again
Sailing on the sea of dreams
How far away it seems
Sailing upon the white ship

When The Ship Comes In - Bob Dylan's cover

Eric Burdon & Jimmy Whiterspoon - Driftin'

I'm drifting and drifting, just like a ship out on the sea.
I'm drifting and drifting, just like a ship out on the sea.
Well I ain't got nobody in this world to care for me.
If my baby would only take me back again.
If my baby would only take me back again.
I would feel much better, darling, and at least I'd have a friend.
I give you all my money, tell me what more can I do.
I give you all my money, tell me what more can I do.
You is a sweet little girl but I swear you won't be true.
I'm drifting and drifting, just like a ship out on the sea.
I'm drifting and drifting, just like a ship out on the sea.
Because I ain't got nobody in this world to care for me.

Somewhere In England 1915

And the train has turned into a ship that is sailing away
And the platform is a beach full of shells under silvery grey

This is one of my favorite Jerry tunes, and one of several tunes called 'Ship of Fools'.

Sutherland Brothers and Quiver again, the original [single] version of the song that became a worldwide hit for Rod Stewart.

A simple "Crossroads". Pat, you can also add the Clapton's version if you wish. ;)
Great and a pleasant find your Sutherland's ships song. Thank you.

Wow! This thread's been really buzzin' today, with a whole raft (geddit?) of additions. And it doesn't stop there. Oh no siree! Here's three more:

Peter Hammill (yes, another one!). (No more) The Sub-Mariner:

Oh! To be the captain of a ship of war!
The pilot of a Tempest or a York!

Nic Jones. William Glenn:

Oh it's of a ship and a ship of fame.

Iron and Wine. Walking Far From Home:

I saw a boat full of believers.

Cheers,
Jioffe.

Perhaps a dubious entry to this thread but here goes Robs
Sailed Away
taken from his Home Truths release

Lyrics-

Although I never knew you...
I was moved close to tears.
When I learned of your fate, your misfortune.
Yes I was struck with fear.

You didn’t listen to her then
(And you still don’t)
Instead you drove her round the bend,
And scraped upon each others bones.
Do you recall the scent she left upon your cheek.
She said that she would stay....

But she sailed away.

It’s clear that you miss her,
It’s evident you crave her voice.
There’s not a thousand like her,
And my boy she’s made her choice.

You didn’t listen to her then
(And you still don’t)
Instead you drove her round the bend,
And scraped upon each others bones.
Do you recall the scent she left upon your cheek.
She said that she would stay....

But she sailed away.

My Ship My Star - Gordon Jackson

Gordon Jackson's album, Thinking Back, was produced by Dave Mason, it's a mellodic distillation of folk, pop and psychedelia which could almost be called a lost Traffic album, featuring as it does the talents of Stevie Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Dave Mason and Chris Wood. A true lost classic. Enjoy.

Nice jioffe's & Preston's suggestions have already been updated on the songs list. Great job mates. Thanks. :-/

Crosby, Stills & Nash - Southern Cross

Got out of town on a boat
Goin' to Southern Islands
Sailing a reach
Before a followin' sea
She was makin' for the trades
On the outside
And the downhill run
To Papeete
Off the wind on this heading
Lie the Marquesas

I'm sorry tullabye, reading the thread back again from the first page I did notice I hadn't added yet your good proposal on the song list, now it's have already been fixed on it. Thanks :P

The poacher and his daughter
throw soft shadows on the water in the night.
A thin moon slips behind them
as they pull the net with no betraying light.
And later on the coast road, I meet them
and the old man winks a smile.
And who am I to fast deny the right
to take a fish once in a while?
I walk with them, they wish me luck
when I ship out on the Sunday from the kyle.
And from the church I hear them singing
as the ship moves sadly from the pier.
Oh, poacher's daughter, Sunday best,
two hundred brave souls share the farewell tear.

There's a house on the hillside, where the drifting sands are born.
Lay down and let the slow tide wash me
back to the land where I came from.
Where the mountain men are kings
and the sound of the piper counts for everything.

Did my tour, did my duty. I did all they asked of me.
Died in the trenches and at Alamein
...died in the Falklands on T.V.
Going back to the mountain kings
where the sound of the piper counts for everything.

Long generations from the Isles
sent to tread the foreign miles
where the spiral ages meet.
Felt naked dust beneath their feet.
Future sun called winds to blow
and the past and present hard-eyed crow
flew hunting high and circling low over blackened plains of Eden.

There's a child and a woman praying for an end to the mystery.
Hoping for a word in a letter
fair wind-blown from across the sea
to where the mountain men are kings
and the sound of the piper counts for eveything.

There's a house on the hillside, where the drifting sands are born.
Lay down and let the slow tide wash me
back to the land where I came from.
Where the mountain men are kings
and the sound of the piper counts for everything.
Where the real mountain men are kings
and the sound of the piper counts for everything.

Feel the naked dust beneath my toes
while the future sun calls winds to blow
and the past and present black-eyed crow
flies hunting high and circling low
between dream mountains of our Eden.

Great find, Erin. An extraordinary vinyl which I own and I hadn't looked it up yet. :P . There are 139 songs posted so far including yours.

140 ;D
The Siren Song - VDGG

So the siren song runs through the ages,
and it courses through my veins like champagne;
and with all the sweet kisses of addiction
it's calling me to break my bonds again.

Future memory exploding like shrapnel,
some splinters escape on my tongue,
some of them scar comprehension...
beneath the scab they burn, but the wound becomes numbs.
And always the song draws me forward,
rejoicing in the search and the prayer,
bored with all but the mad,
the strange, the freak, the impossible dare.
Still your laugh chills my marrow
till I embrace it on my knees....
Oh, when the mast becomes a flagpole,
what becomes of me?

There are out there a big bunch of Siren's songs about, don't keep silent, bastards!! ;D

I have a puzzle with a terrific blues song that I want to post here yet I don't find the lyrics anywhere online but I don't get to solve if Charlie mentions some boats or ships quotes in the central lines of the verses. I just listen some "seas around" quote. ??? Any help will be ever welcomed. Thanks.

Black Water - Charlie Musselwhite
