I'm surprised no one's grabbed this one yet:

"Hourglass sands run through my veins like blood draining from a salty wound.
Mad Mars forgets the cost of strife, serves no longer, purpose in my life.
Down this dusty scorched wind-blast track, eyes facing forward, ne'er look back.
As rain comes down on Wootton Bassett Town, black hearses crawl and church bells sound.
Bikers, burghers line the kerbs; a politician, a Highness Royal.
Chance shoppers, tradesmen, stiffly stand and shed their tears for the military man."

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

Drinking songs for May? Good Lord, you're talking to a guy who played in Irish pubs for years! Sure'n, I got drinkin' songs comin' out me arse. As I used to say during the first set, "Knock 'em down, friends! Because the drunker you get, the better I sound, and the drunker I get the better you look!"

Roses by German prog-rockers RPWL (with Ray Wilson ex Stiltskin and Genesis). I only discovered this band yesterday and have been very impressed with what I've heard of them. Also very Pink Floyd sounding (they started as a Floyd tribute band) with a bit of Porcupine Tree thrown in. Interested to hear if anyone else knows of them.

The chestnut vendor in the rain
Haven't seen him since I moved away.

I don't like sad songs that much. This one is very sad.

Does any one remember when Karen Carpenter
called Robert Plant a "Freak or Thing" during the early 70's?

Slowburn - Peter Gabriel

We've tried a handful of bills and a handful of pills
We've tried making movies from a volume of stills
(But) the words fell like hailstones,
bouncing at our feet,
Covering our feelings with a frozen sheet.

Down By The River - Neil Young

Yeah, she could drag me
over the rainbow,
send me away
Down by the river
I shot my baby
Down by the river,
Dead, oh, shot her dead.

List updated :-/ Thanks for all.

The Chequered Flag - Jethro Tull

The still-born child can't feel the rain
as the chequered flag falls once again.
The deaf composer completes his final score.
He'll never hear the sweet encore.
The chequered flag, the bull's red rag,
the lemming-hearted hordes
running ever faster to the shore singing,
Isn't it grand to be playing to the stand,
dead or alive.

::) :-/
