Since some albums have an abundance of extra tracks, like Broadsword & Catfish, let's explore the possibilities of what might have been.
So the idea is to select 10 tracks from each session and place them in running order. You can even rename the album if you like.

Here's the tracks from the Broadsword session. Unless I made a mistake, that's 25 tracks. The remaster certainly should have been a double CD.
But it could be interesting to see some revised single CD's...

Here's what I would do with Broadsword if asked to recreate it with a different track listing containing 10 songs. Since several songs are already political and social commentary, I would make it more so.
Side One:
I would immediately eliminate Beastie, and in its place I would substitute Commons Brawl, a wonderful little underated song with a great sense of humor and very critical of the political process, and the title is such a great pun.
Next I would leave The Clasp and Fallen on Hard Times, because they also contain the same element of social and political critique.
Flying Colours would be removed in favor of I'm Your Gun, an interesting examination of the pros and cons of gun regulation, which also happens to be a corker of a song.
Slow Marching Band would remain in the fifth spot for some cathartic relief, because it is such a beautiful song, even though it doesn't fit the theme.
Side Two:
Broadsword would stay, because it contains the dire warnings about what lies ahead due to the problems set forth on Side 1. After that I would go with Too Many Too and Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow, because those would be in keeping with the overall critical theme. I would then round the album out with Jack-A-Lynn, for some nice relief, and then Down at the End of Your Road (again because of the criticism of the real estate business, plus it happens to be a really good song and would be a great way to end the album), so my recreated album would look like this:
Side 1:
Commons Brawl
The Clasp
Fallen on Hard Times
I'm Your Gun
Slow Marching Band
Side 2:
Broadsword
Too Many Too
Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow
Jack-A-Lynn
Down at the End of Your Road
Since there would no longer be any Beastie, the album would have to be renamed to simply 'Broadsword.'

 This is tough when you love them all. Let's call it "I'm Your Tull" or "Tull Gun" or "Drive On The Tull Side"  BLAH!

It's interesting to read these lists. Especially the songs that each of us would have set aside. It's definitely not easy.
Interesting to read the Fatman's conceptual pattern vs one like mine which tends to focus more on the flow musically of on to another.
Motoreyes - would have been a nice track to set the stage that Tull's rockin.

Commons Brawl - A great song. Better than the harsh vocals on
Fallen on Hard Times
Seal Driver - Had to keep this track. One of Martin's best.
Jack Frost And The Hooded Crow - Intro flows real nice off Seal's outro
Slow Marching Band - Nice close out track
So there it is. 4 tracks off the original LP. They certainly do sound more "polished."
