Ian's Telephone « Thread Started on Dec 11, 2011, 7:30am »
Although my experiences at Tull concerts ended in the mid '70s, they are vivid in my memories. While I roamed around shooting pics at the May '73 Greensboro concert I kept wondering why there was a telephone sitting on a stool dead center front. At the conclusion of the show, after the encores, as everyone was departing the stage, it rang. Ian came over and picked up the handset, said "Hello". He then held the handset out toward the audience and said"It's for you"

I have this sized 11x17.
During the show at Greensboro, there were several times when the band would stop playing for a moment and look at the phone. They were odd moments which did not end until the encore was over. I believe this started originally during the TAAB tour and Ian would say "There is an urgent telephone call for Mike Nelson. I believe there's a fish on the line."
If you were able to see the War Child tour in '74-'75, the Zebra came out onstage and pooped Zebra shit into the waiting hands of Zebra suited Jeffrey. As he juggled the poop balls, Ian commented how Tull was one band that had it's shit together. Also in '82, the Zebra appeared onstage during a song as Peter-John Vettese was playing a portable keyboard.

Yes-- and then the spotlight would play on a man in a complete rubber skindive suit with air tank, goggles, and flippers as he made his way down the centre aisle to the stage in order to take the call.
