How did your parents react to the constant Tull blasting from your room? Ever take a parent to see Tull? What was that like?

My Eastern European parents had an inkling that it was 'always with the yethro' music.

I always had the door closed, but I'm sure the music could be heard. They never said a word, which I'm not really sure how to interpret. I think my mother would last 30 seconds in a concert venue, even BEFORE the music started.

I never had music blasting from my room...my mom probably would've come in and bitch slapped me if I did....My mom doesn't like Tull. (Well she said she liked the song LITP a little) Since I like Tull she loves to tell me this story which I've told a bazillion times probably at the official site...that in like 76 she was fifteen and she was supposed to go to see Tull with some guy....she didn't care for the guy and she didn't care for Tull so she faked getting a broken arm that day. So she almost went to a show but I wasn't alive yet...as for my biodad, he does like Tull, but not APP and complains that there's just a "greatest hits" every few years and no new stuff. I wouldn't be caught dead going anywhere with him. I don't remember if he's ever seen Tull live. He's given me several Tull albums on vinyl. Which are nothing more than fire hazards for me since I don't play records. But whatever. Wished I had brought one with me to Albany though, then members could've signed the cover and that would've been cool...

My parents HATED the music. And I still can hear my mum screaming: "Mach die Musik leiser " In 1994 I organised the first German Jethro Tull Convention and Mr. Anderson was there. My father was at the venue when IA arrived and he was so proud, when he saw me chatting with the man. And the night before the 2nd German Convention Glenn Cornick slept at my parents place. My mum could not believe how nice this guy was. She asked me later: "And this nice man made the horrible music?" ;D

Pretty sure everyone that knows me thinks of me EVERY time they hear Tull on the radio. And that of course includes everyone I went to school with. But I remember my parents enjoying the musicianship at first. But like most things I enjoyed, once my father knew it was something I was really into, he then started bashing it. You know....you're typical father and son relationship.

So about 12 years ago, I'm taking my mom to her first Tull show, at Jones Beach. The plan was for me to pick both her and my sister (who had seen several previous shows) up at my folks' house in Stony Brook. Picture my mom as a typical Jewish mother, slightly overweight and a hearty sense of humor, but she had been plenty critical of my Tull addiction over the years. So imagine my surprise as I drove up the driveway and my mother and sister, both wearing Tull shirts, rushed out onto the front lawn and proceeded to stand, perched on one leg in unison, playing the air flute!

Another person's Parentull reaction was funny, about the Xmas album. I know I've told this story before but it cracks me up. A couple years ago, I was working as a job coach for some people with disabilities. This one girl had Down Syndrome. Well I go to pick her up at her house, she was like my age, so her Dad was at least 50, maybe a little older...He remembers Tull from the 70's and whatnot, doesn't know much about them today, liked them then...so he would ask me questions occasionally....I told him about the concerts I saw, meeting IA, all that stuff. He, like many, as I've mentioned, seemed surprised about me being a Tull fan. Well I pick his daughter up one day and she comes out with a copy of N'Sync Christmas album and her father says, "Don't make Holly listen to that!" and looks at me and jokes, "Too bad there's no Jethro Tull Christmas album" and I said "Actually, there is." He looked at me like I was crazy. Can you guys who knew Tull way back when, honestly go back to that time and think ahead and picture them with a Christmas album?!?

I don't remember that story, but funny. Actually, by the time SFTW and HH came out I could vision Tull putting out a Xmas album. Some of that stuff had a Christmas sound and feel to it anyway, and by the early 80s most definitly. There was Jack Frost and a couple others with that seasonal flair. But going way back to the 60s and early 70s I don't think so, but then I was way too young to consider that. Anyway, did your friend's father ever hear the Tull Christmas Album? What did he think about it?

Hmmm, I didn't think of that...when I was thinking, I was thinking of you know like, MITG, or Benefit or AL or whatever.....not the folksy seasonal songs later...it's funny how their music has been here, there, everywhere...hmmm...I guess you're right! ha. I feel like listening to Heavy Horses right now all of a sudden. Really loud...but I've got two sleeping babies, so I think I'm going to try to go back to sleep too.... Oh and I don't know if he ever did! I didn't give it to him, but now I'm thinking if I considered letting him hear it....hmmm...oh well can't remember....Still don't know if he even believed me...haaaa

I'm afraid I do not have any brave or romantic stories of Jethro Tull rebellion. My parents are in their late 40s, so they were the ones listening to Tull in their headphones late in their basements enveloped in a smokey haze. Well, my father at least. My mother always liked them a bit, but couldn't really enjoy Ian's vocals. That has changed quite a bit in recent years.
Unfortunately, even though my father was a Tull fan in his youth, it was not him who turned me onto them.
