Dave Rees said this unreleased Tull song is a classic. I need to go back and check Dave's book but I believe he said he really tried to get Ian to release it on the 20th anniversary box set. Can anyone remember what year this song dates from and anything else about it?
Any other studio recordings we know of that remain unreleased?

Dave Rees said this unreleased Tull song is a classic. I need to go back and check Dave's book but I believe he said he really tried to get Ian to release it on the 20th anniversary box set. Can anyone remember what year this song dates from and anything else about it? Any other studio recordings we know of that remain unreleased? I had the David Rees and Greg Russo books handy, but I found the reference at the Cup of Wonder website, reprinted here: D.J. An outtake from "The Broadsword And The Beast", played live in 1981 - 1982."A weird attempt at disco music by Tull! It is actually not bad, but disco never really was Tull's strong point, and it seems to fall apart at the end. Not funky enough to be the real thing and not funny enough to be a spoof." * Dave Rees in "A New Day", issue 35, December 1992.
Dinosaur Another outtake from "The Broadsword And The Beast", played live in 1981 - 1982. According To Dave Rees this song is "A raucous heavyweight rocker with a thumping guitar- driven backbeat and powerful vocals from Ian. The only doubt we had about this song [i.e. for inclusion on 'Nightcap'] was the title: another 'Living in the Past' / 'Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll' critics' cliché handed to the press on a plate . But that was then and this is now, and the days of worrying about the music press are long gone. A worthy contender for the next collection." * Dave Rees in "A New Day", issue 35,
I've posted this before, but another never released song was called "Apocalypse" and recorded for Stormwatch but played at the Itullian Convention in 2001 by David Palmer and Beggar's Farm and sadly the link isn't working on Laufi's Site. Now it went sensational ... again the next song was introduced in italian, but I did understand that David spoke about an unreleased Tull song from the "Stormwatch" era named "Apocalypse". Well, what should I say? A FANTASTIC song with various time and rhythm changes, great flute work, a fine instrumental part and catchy hook lines. This is already one of my favourites! PLEASE, Ian, if you ever go through your archives and find this one - release it or re-record it, it's a great piece of music! I wonder what unreleased or unrecorded Tull songs are in the vaults. I know that David Palmer found notes of a 1976 song named "6 O'Clock News". And he thinks that it's one of the ten best Tull songs ever! Lyrics were printed at the 'Cup' website: Apocalypse * This song was recorded for the Stormwatch album, but not included. It was never played live by the band, but there is a recording of this song, as performed by David Palmer & Beggars Farm at the Itullian Convention, June 30 2001. *) Available as Real Audio file on Laufi's site (www.laufi.de). Elwyn Davies has tried to transcribe the lyrics, and Dag Sandbu has send in some additions. Please mind that we are not sure if we're right!

Greg Russo's book also listed at least five unidentified tracks from, "Roots To Branches" and at least two more ( "It All Trickles Down?") from "Dot Com." Also a song, "8:40 From Nowhere (Inverness Sleeper) (1983) another train song from the Walk Into Light session. Dan

Dan, fantastic reply, just what I was after. It sounds like there just might be another albums worth of unreleased material.
One thing I'd really love to hear is Tull rehearsals and Ian's own cassette style ideas and what nots. Did anyone ever keep a copy of the dot com demos?

Hi Mix, Unfortunately I didn't keep them, but I know a man who might have and I have just sent an e-mail off to see if he may have them. I would much rather have a copy of Ian's demo's then some of the rehash versions of classics that we have had over the years by different line-ups. Pete Townshend raided his personal vaults once and produced a great album called 'scoop', it was successful enough with fans to warrent 'Scoop 2' and 'Scoop 3'. Maybe this approach could be something that ian could possibly go with. Not only would he retain full 'artistic' control but also full revenue return as there would be no other musicans to pay.
