Where were YOU in 1966? I turned 11 years old in August of that year and had been living in Kansas City, MO, but my dad’s job had taken us back to Ft. Worth, TX shortly before that Summer.
Where was Jethro Tull in 1966? Well, they were called The John Evan Band and they were a club act performing cover songs. Some familiar names of band members include:
John Evans (of course)
Ian Anderson
Jeffrey Hammond
Glenn Cornick
I am not sure of the chronology of who was a member first, Glenn or Jeffrey, but according to the Wikipedia article below it was Jeffrey who suggested that John Evans change his name to John Evan because he thought the band name sounded better as the John Evan Band vs. The John Evans Band…such small details…LOL. I believe Glenn came AFTER Jeffrey because I see in one frame of the video further below that the band was called The John Evan Smash in 1967, and Glenn is pictured in that shot.

I mentioned in another post somewhere that about 7 years ago I had discovered a website called “digitull.com” where you could download numerous Tull bootlegs, and among them were live recordings of The John Evan Band. Unfortunately that website was taken down before I was able to download everything I wanted. Here is a sampling I found on youtube earlier today of the John Evan Band performing “Let The Good Times Roll” in 1966.
Still shots I snagged from the video above:
Ian on the far left, Jeffrey Hammond in back/center, and John Evans on far right
John at the keyboard, Glenn on bass, and I believe that is Ian on the right in the white shirt.
In front of the Granada TV building, Ian 2nd from left, John sitting, and Glenn far right.
Newspaper clipping, Ian 2nd from left top row, John kneeling in center/front, and Glenn far right top row.
Ian and John.
I think that is John on the front left, Jeffrey center/back, and Ian front right.
A pre-Tull shot of Ian.

According to Glenn Cornick in an email I received from him, Ian IS the singer in all of these songs. Glenn said that Ian was still sort of searching for his unique vocal style during these times. To me it is hardly recognizable as Ian.
Hope everyone enjoys this.
