Thanks for replying. I'm big fan of the Jethro material from the 60's to the 80's. (Especially early 80s ( "A" ) ) but I'm not familiar with his solo material, I'll have to check it out. Hi neo139. If you know something about Jethro Tull, you will be hugely surprised by the solo material. You are going to discover something really great!! :PI am unable to advice you which Album is the best, they are so differents..I love them all. M.

Has Ian ever been billed as "previously of Jethro Tull?" - TMIan Anderson Monday and Tuesday night at Bilbao's BBK SalaLiving legends from the rock music scene will be playing in Bilbao throughout 2011. On Monday and Tuesday 7-8 February, Scottish flautist Ian Anderson, previously of Jethro Tull, will be offering solo performances at the city's Sala BBK venue. The season, entitled Music Legends which kicked off in January with Dr Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson, includes a gig by Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts in its line-up. Tickets for both of Ian Anderson's concerts have already sold out. One of the aims behind the venue's Music Legends season is to bring some of the most prominent figures of the 1960s and 70s rock music scene to Bilbao. As well as Ian Anderson, John Mayall and Charlie Watts, the stage at the Sala BBK will also host performances from Albert Lee, Marianne Faithful and former Rolling Stones bass guitarist, Bill Wyman. www.eitb.com/news/entertainment/detail/594344/ian-anderson-monday-tuesday-night-bilbaos-bbk-sala/

The Rio de Janeiro date announced on the website seems to be wrong. I don't think there'll be a concert there, while there's a lot of promotion involving São Paulo date, nothing has been said about Rio; no ticket sales, no venue... Nothing.

Hi, Danielle, and welcome to The Jethro Tull Board. Thanks for your interest in our burgeoning Tull community. That does sound a little odd about the Rio show, but if it's been announced on the website, my feeling is that they will be playing there. It may be that the final details with the venue are not worked out, and that's why they are not posted as of yet. Since Tull will be touring much of South America, it would not surprise me if there are multiple shows in a country as large as Brazil. We'll look into the matter and see what we can find out. In the meantime, have a look around our Tull amusement park and we'll talk again soon! Jeff

got my tickets for the buxton show, now hoping to be back to go to the shrewsbury show as well. Welcome to The Jethro Tull Board, jj2000, we're delighted that you have joined us here! It's great that you will be able to catch at least one, if not two, of Ian's solo England tour. Those shows , from what we have read, sound like they are going to be truly unique, tiny venues with new acoustic material, etc. I always like to see at least two shows on any tour, just in case one night is an off-night. I can't tell you how many times I have seen them on successive nights where one show is great and the other one is just so-so. Anyway, we look forward to shooting the breeze with you here, and of course, several months down the line we will be interested in knowing what you thought of the shows! Cheers, Jeff

Ian Anderson shows 2011I have it on very good authority that you ought to keep a look out on the official board towards the end of the week as we about to get details of a September 2011 Ian Anderson UK tour. It will be around 13 shows with Ian plus Florian and John. Very intimate with rare songs. I also hear that there will be news of some Australian shows in April as well. and......very possibly ......

Hi, Yajozna, and welcome to The Jethro Tull Board! We are an independent fan site -- so the official site is not run by us, it's run by the band. For that reason I can't answer your question offhand, but I will look into it for you. My feeling is that if the dates are on the official site, then they are accurate. It may be that tickets are not yet on sale at the venue, but that would surprise me since the show is only a month away! We will research it further, but in the meantime your best bet may be to contact the individual venues. We're glad to have you as a new member here, and if you do go to one or more of the shows next month, we'd like very much to know what you thought of it! Have fun on the board, and we'll "talk" again soon. Jeff

He and other members are also going to appear at the Spanish convention in June, I think. It's going to be a great summer for you, and we look forward to hearing all about it. Good to hear from you and a Happy Easter to you! Enjoy the holiday. Jeff

www.yorkpress.co.uk/leisure/music/9105311.Ian_Anderson__Grand_Opera_House__York__September_20/Ian Anderson, Grand Opera House, York, September 20 Friday 24th June 2011 After 43 years of leading Jethro Tull to 54 countries and selling 60 million albums worldwide, Ian Anderson is to embark on a 13-date acoustic tour that will arrive at the Grand Opera House, York, on September 20. “I’ve always wanted to go out in the UK with a small line-up, to play and to restructure the songs and music for a more intimate and personalised performance,” says Ian. “After many years of performing in this way for radio broadcasts in the USA, it seems like fun to bring this approach to the UK fans, old and new, and to make them feel like they are in my living room for an impromptu family concert.” He will be touring in a trio with German guitar virtuoso Florian Opahle and pianist, accordionist and percussionist John O’Hara, performing Tull acoustic classics, rare songs and other re-arranged Tull rock material. New pieces specially written for the tour will make an appearance and the audience can expect anecdotes and musical surprises too. Tickets cost £25 or £22.50 on 0844 847 2322 or grandoperahouseyork.org.uk And tonight flies a better moon.

JETHRO Tull’s Ian Anderson has performed the band’s music in as many forms as you can imagine. “I’ve done them as a band of course,” he says. “And I’ve also done the songs with an orchestra and a string quartet.” But this time around, he’s bringing the music to Buxton in acoustic form on a 13-date tour of the UK. He has performed acoustically before. “That’s right,” he agrees. “But it’s the first time I’ve done it in the UK.” Along with him is the German guitar virtuoso Florian Opahle, who has worked extensively with the likes of Greg Lake in the past, and pianist/accordionist/percussionist John O’Hara, stalwart of the current incarnation of Tull. Speaking of the trio format, Anderson says: “I wouldn’t do a show with just me and an acoustic guitar, for one thing I’m known as a flute player.” As well as many of the Tull classics, the set will include some new material and some surprises. “I’ll also be talking about writing the songs and what gave rise to them, but there will be much more music than chat,” he admits. Sort of ‘An Evening with Ian Anderson’? “Yes, that would sum it up. “It is an opportunity to look at the more acoustic pieces in their stripped down form and approaching them from a different direction. “A bit of musical fun really.” As a band, Jethro Tull has recorded some of the legendary classic rock albums in its 43-year career, from Aqualung to Thick As a Brick and Heavy Horses. The new material should prove to be interesting. “There won’t be that much really,” the 63-year-old Scot says. “In any show I’ll only play two or three new songs just to ‘road test’ them. If you get a good reception with them you feel confident that it’ll work as a recording. “Some of Aqualung was done that way. “Of the whole show I’d say that it’s gonna be 70/30 of songs that most people will be familiar with, and there may be three or four old Tull numbers that we haven’t played in the UK.” And as to his raison d’etre for this tour, Anderson sums it up quite simply: “I have always wanted to go out in the UK with a small line-up, to play and to restructure the songs and music for a more intimate and personalised performance. “After many years of performing in this way for radio broadcasts in the USA, it seems like fun to bring this approach to the UK fans, old and new, and to make them feel like they are in my living room for an impromptu family concert.” Ian Anderson will bring his acoustic tour to Buxton Opera House on Sunday September 18, at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £23 and £25, are available on 0845 127 2190 or at www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk. www.buxtonadvertiser.co.uk/lifestyle/entertainment/anderson_s_acoustic_adventure_1_3676066
