In this thread we will sample some of the many cover bands that play Tull songs, but that are not Tull tribute bands in the sense that they also do covers of a lot of other bands as well.
First up, Alabama Thunderpussy -- love that name -- does Hymn 43. This is one of the best Tull covers I've ever heard.

Rat Race Choir has been around forever, I remember seeing them on the Long Island club circuit thirty years ago. They aren't a Tull tribute band -- they don't have a flutist and do covers of other artists besides Tull -- however, they do a very good job of replicating the flute with synthesizers and they are all huge Tull fans.
They are so good that they have played at several U.S.A. Tull conventions on Long Island in the mid 1990's, and if I'm not mistaken they played the entire Passion Play album at one of them, and the entire Brick at another. And not too long ago their guitarist, Craig Weinberg, filled in for Tull tribute band War Child's guitarist, at a recent War Child gig. Here is a sampling:
You remember these guys, Paul?

Check out this excellent cover of one of my favorite Tull songs. The guy did a great job not only with the singing and music, but also with perfectly matching up the photos and images, many of which are quite erotic, and of course he includes some leading politicians of the day who have been embroiled in well-publicized sex scandals.
We've got to get this guy over here!

Thanks for posting this, Geir, and great to see you here again! I have taken the liberty of inserting the video into your post, not just the URL, which is the only time I will ever touch anyone's post. It' an excellent video. Didn't they perform with Tull, or Ian, on one of his recent tours a few years ago? How's everything in Norway? Jeff

Hey Jeff Yyou have a great memory. I forgot these guys. I remember seeing them at Speaks a few times and a couple of other places in Nassau. I remember always being hassled at the front doors of those clubs because they wouldn't let you in without a collared shirt. They were always worth the ride out there though.

Here's an excerpt of one-man band Jay Tausig's unique cover of Thick as a Brick, which I really like. (I'd love to hear the whole thing.)
Very nicely done!

Sixstep is not a Tull tribute band -- they cover other bands too -- but they did recently perform the entire Aqualung album cover to cover at their recent Halloween show.
This is no ordinary cover band. They do something entirely different, putting their own unique twist on Tull by replacing the flute with a saxophone, (and in the case of Aqualung, adding the saxophone) and it happens to work really, really well, on all the songs, and especially on Up to Me.
Give these a listen!
Since they've got that great sax guy, I'd like to hear them tackle the entire Passion Play, too!

Totally agree Jeff. 'Up To Me' works very well. Very interesting to hear these with sax. I like how he repeats, "when the copper fades away" and his singing at the end of 'Up To Me'.
How about when the hood comes off during 'My God' to reveal the bald head - great stuff. He has a great voice too.

Sorry to bump an old post, but I attended the '93, '94, '96, '97 & '99 USA Tull conventions. Rat Race played at the '93, '94 and '96 conventions (and they were great), but the band that performed Thick in it's entirety was the Canadian band The Passion Players (their original music band was called Salem) at the '94 (or was it '96?) convention and the band Heresy played Passion Play in it's entirety at the '99 convention.
