Peter-John Vettese 1983Ian goes GQ with his Tull-a-phone. Thanks for that Jim, not seen them. Love Ian's desk! What was that gig? Is that David Palmer conducting? I really like this era. At its heart the Barre, Pegg Anderson trio which I really hoped we would see reform again one day. I enjoyed PJV's work with Tull & Ian and I think a new collaboration today would be really interesting. This band is a clear distinction from the 70's Tull and the keyboard heavy 80's Tull. Everything since PJV has been an imitation. Whether you like that period of Tull or not repect must be given to PJV for creation of that Tull genre. Of course you could argue that Eddie Jobson laid the ground work for that sound. He is an exceptional musician but he was never a member of Tull, more guest I'd say. Maart Allcock should get a mention. He's not really a keyboard player and was only in to cover but his personality brought something to the band. Giddings is a talented chap but I don't feel he really made a musical mark apart from his collaboration with Ian on Divinities which I really enjoyed. Giddings is a skilled player and could duplicate what others had done before him with ease. I've only seen O'hara once earlier this year and I think its too early to judge him at this stage. I enjoyed his playing live but I'll wait to pass judgment when Ian's new album comes out. At this stage I can't see why he replaced Giddings other than for personal reasons with Ian but as I say, O'hara is yet to show us what he brings to the table. That of course leaves Johh Evans. Out of all the Tull keyboard players John was, in my opinion, the most musical and original. There is just something magical in his playing that was a crucial element to the 70's Tull. His work has stood the test of time and he remains today the fans favorite and rightly so. Such a talented chap, I wish he was still playing today so we could enjoy his skill. Quizz, Tm, Jeff - any luck pinning him down for a Q&A?

. Quizz, Tm, Jeff - any luck pinning him down for a Q&A? Mix We have a few Q &A's in the offing, and we continue to hope the JE is one of them. JE rarely has anything to do with the band these days and contact with him even via some of our more 'direct' routes is difficult. But we will continue to try to persuade him bia our contact to be a little less reclusive if we can.

John Evan for sure. Jobson or Vettese may be technicaly much better, but they just don`t fit in Tull`s distinctive sound world.

I've always had a soft spot for Eddie Jobson, even though he seemed an odd fit for Tull. My favourite keyboard player though is David Palmer, but not from a technical viewpoint (which I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on) but simply because there was something about him that I liked more than I did John Evans.

For me it would be a tie between Vetesse and Evans. I love John Evans for all the reasons you would expect me to, but I really do like the keyboard work on Broadsword and the Beast (which I know some people don't have a taste for), and that's sort of a special album for me. He was really great on Walk Into Light, and on Under Wraps as well (especially on "Tundra" in my opinion). Too bad he left the band. I can't remember where I read it but I do remember reading that Vetesse quit the band partly because of the negative response to his presence on the albums. That's really too bad. I wonder if he was a bit miffed since the first album they released after he left became a hit. For that matter, when you consider "Crest of a Knave" Ian is indeed a mentionable keyboard player for Jethro Tull!

Evans every time, Vetesse was superb but 'over the top' for Tull. Giddings was very good ,the new guy doesnt even look like a band member to me. More like a professor althoug im sure he is a good musician.
