Please allow me to introduce a new tribute band that always plays some Jethro Tull. We are Downing Grey and we are paying tribute to the entire era of Classic Progressive Rock. Jethro Tull made our list of bands that must be covered in an evening, If your from the upstate NY area please try and catch this show it will be unlike anything you've ever seen on stage. Our encore set is for US (the musicians in the band) and for the faithful who want someting different and fun...this end of the night set... will become known as the most fun a prog head has ever had as we might do something crazy like the entire Hamburger Concerto album from Focus or even some Steely Dan or Atomic Rooster one fine night just for fun. Check us out if you can. Nice site you have here, seems to be a lot activity and more than a few intelligent people that love music as we do. Thanks for the invite Randy Decker www.downinggrey.com/

It's not too far from home for me and I'll do what I can to make the trip and possibly give some sort of half ass review. Do you guys ever have a beer after the show? Dan

Sounds like it's going to be a great show. Wish it was a bit closer to home. Good luck, and welcome to the board. I hope you stick around and join us Randy. Paul

Thanks for the invite Randy Decker www.downinggrey.com/Welcome to The Jethro Tull Board, Randy, thanks for joining us here. We are enthusiastic supporters of tribute bands, Tull and otherwise, and already it looks like Dan may be attending your show, since it's in his neck of the woods. Many of our members are fans not only of Tull, but also Genesis, Yes, Rush, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, etc., just the kind of stuff that I think you guys will be tackling. Definitely keep us in the loop as to all of DowningGrey's upcoming shows, and feel free to join in any existing discussions on the board, or start a new thread on any topic that interests you. Good to have you aboard! Jeff

Thank you all, I have been doing some of the Jethro Tull material as part of my solo act for a long time. I love the difference that Tull brings to the sound of our project. I mean Tull absolutely rocks but so far we have picked some very cool but lighter songs to include in the sets, in fact I am opening with Skating Away for the second set. That piece is one of my favorites as the lyrics are timeless and the feel of the music is pure acoustic brilliance and we get to throw some mandolin in on this piece. Any of you who do make the show there is not a lot of any one of the bands we do but since you all seem to have excellent taste in music you'll be very pleased with what you will hear. We hope that this concept we have will be well accepted as we plan to present each band just as acurately as we possibly can. I am the lead vocalist and I have some of the biggest names in rock history to cover. My position is no less daunting than any of the guy's when you think about it. Once you go through the list of musicians in your head and then you write it down we are talking about over 50 of the very best there ever were and not only were they good, they were unique in their sounds and playing styles and difficult to copy, all.... You have to admit just watching the band change its sounds and playing style for each song...(and we switch them all night no two in a row here) .... you'll have a blast just trying to remember what we played by the end of the night. Please hang when its done.... we always will have an encore. This is our time... not the audiences... but this is part of our show... and we hope it will become a favorite part for some. We have music "we" want to do so you never know what it might be. that's the fun of it. We seriously have spent some time now on doing some work from Focus, Atomic Rooster, even Jon Luc Ponty and Steely Dan and Sting.....How about Love Reign ore me from The Who or Rain Song from Zeppelin....? you just don't hear those very much anymore and I swear I hate how the other tribute bands sing this great work.....we might try out a new YES piece or Genesis to see how we are doing with it some night. it's endless. Enjoy. I won't be wearing any green tights though.....sorry....... thats for Ian.
Thanks again Randy
