will be driving the 8-9 hours trip to Red Rocks from Lincoln NE, several days in the mountains then off to Denver, my 23rd Tull concert but first at Red Rocks. Lets hope the set list recently from Australia will be close to what we can expect.

Well,am expecting whole Aqualung album as advertised, not sure what else will be thrown in the mix. This is well over a 100 shows total for me,you will really enjoy Red Rocks, decent sound for outdoor venue, mule deer in the hills looking down on folks partying in the lot and some bad ass views, all in all a great experience,so far weather looks great but dress for low 60's as the sun sets.

Flying in from KC Tuesday. Saw the last Red Rocks visit too. Looking forward to Kansas also, but hope the double bill doesn't shorten Tull's setlist (which I assume will be all of Aqualung).

Hi, Alan, nice to hear from you! I am sure you're going to have a great time at the Red Rocks show Wednesday night. It's a perfect venue for Tull. Was the last show there the one they did for the 40th anniversary in 2008, with Steve Lukather as special guest? I saw some videos on youtube from that show with Lukather, and they sounded incredible. Enjoy the show, and by all means let us know what you thought! Jeff

Sounds like a great road trip, BK....I've taken quite a few Tull trips with my buddies Rob and Mike, so I know how fun they can be. I take it you'll have some company? Have a great time at the show, and please be sure to post your review on the board! BTW, I know you are one of the earliest members of The Jethro Tull Board, but for the life of me I cannot remember your first name, or if I ever inquired. Usually I do, but I don't think I asked you otherwise I would remember your name. We like to be on a first-name basis, so if you are comfortable with letting us know your first name, please do! (It's totally cool if you prefer not, though) Jeff

2008 show was the Lukather show. Will be attending with a Tullie from Pittsburgh, my wife, son and daughter-in-law. No Missouri stop this year so off to Red Rocks we go in about one hour. I will post upon my return.

Good morning from Lakewood (between Denver and Red Rocks Amphitheater @ Morrison). kansas were pretty good; JETHRO TULL were Bloody Magnificent! (Do they really belong in the same sentence?) i read somewhere that at a previous tour a few years ago Ian was in fine voice. Tonight, his voice was a lot smoother than i remember him sounding at the Broadsword and the Beast concert in Boulder or the Crest of a Knave concert in Denver. One of my show mates tonight commented that the whole band sounded much tighter than they had been when he had seen them at The Rainbow Music Hall (i remember that as the concert i missed; i was all set to go - thinking it was such a small venue i could buy a ticket at the door - then i got distracted by some small piece of business {sigh}. That was sometime in the '0-s). i am so happy that, 2 months from 64, our hero is really showing healthy once again. Let's all hope that he's feeling as well as he looks. (i do go on, don't i?) The weather held for them (and us), too; with a little cloud cover and strong breeze early in the evening. But when our Boys emerged, the sky cleared and the breeze calmed. kansas were on from 7:30 (MDT; is Britain in summertime yet? 2:30 a. m. for them, if so; 1:30 if not.) for about 75 minutes. The sun just began to dip behind the hills (behind the house) as Jethro Tull ambled out at about 9:00 (3a/4a) and launched into 100 minutes of pure bliss. They played (in no particular order) Thick, Bouree, Songs, and several other gems of the early years (before "A"). Did they play the entire Aqualung album? i just spent some time going through the track listing; yes, they did, although not in album order. Instead of ending with Wind Up, They ended with Locomotive Breath, including an additional riff at the end. So, Before Aqualung, they played an additional 57 minutes of material. Much to my chagrin, i'm failing to remember every number. Ah, well - what a night!

We look forward to your future participation, to the extent that you are able. By the way, may we know your first name? [Disregard my last question, I just realized today, June 11th, that you are Jess!]From your description, it sounds like it was a fantastic night of music, and it's nice to hear the reports of Ian being in good voice, or at least good-enough voice! There were some very dicey years from say 2003-2007, where he wasn't singing very well, so maybe that is what your friend was referring to, but these last few years have seen a noticeable improvement in his vocals. I want to start by stipulating that this is my first post and I have not been attending every Tull show over the past 30 years - in fact, the last time I saw Tull was during the Thick as a Brick tour in 1972-73? When this tour was announced, I jumped since Aqualung is one of the few 1970's albums that I still listen to regularly so I was excited. Last night was a perfect night at Red Rocks. Now for the tough part: Wow, good voice? I thought that the band was very good - Martin Barre was still in top form and the rest of the band was very tight. However, Ian Anderson doesn't seem to have much of a voice left so I was pretty shocked when the posts described him as being in fine voice. I just think that anyone who has been listening to Aqualung all these years should not expect the vocals to hold up. I guess this will generate some vitriol but please be honest that Ian Anderson has no projection in his voice at all. Mike

Mike Welcome to The Jethro Tull Board, MIke, and thanks for joining our growing Tull community. Thanks for posting your review, and I understand what you are saying. For someone who hasn't seen them since Ian's vocal prime (1972-1976), I can understand your perception of his voice. It's nowhere near what it was, and it's fair game to say that here on the board. However, although this may surprise you, things were a lot worse a few years ago. I think his singing was at it's worst for three or four years between about 2003 and 2007. The show I saw in 2007 was a Tull show not a solo or orchestral show, but the first Tull tour with O'hara and Goodier, and I'm telling you it was 75% instrumental and what little singing there was sounded more like croaking. I almost gave up on them, but they pulled me right back in with a killer show with much improved vocals by Ian, for the 40th anniversary of Tull in 2008. These days he continues to sing much better. It will never be the same as in his prime, but back then he was the best vocalist in rock. All I ask is that he can just sing just well enough to carry it off, which I think for the most part he still can do. Looking forward to talking more Tull with you in the future! Jeff
