Funny Ian would get upset about something so minor as someone using cannabis at a rock concert. We all know the dude drinks. I know he never used it himself, but what harm is gonna come from some kid smoking weed at a rock show? Do you remember any other details about it? Yes I remember! :-) It's not a moral thing with the audience for him. As Ian has explained.... the hot lights on stage are a convection, drawing all smoke down to the stage. As he says in the San Diego vid. "I have to take 2 breaths for every one of yours and I dont do that stuff. So if you wouldn't mind waiting and enjoying yourself on the way home I'd really appreciate it." Then the guy ignores him and Ian takes issue with him and says "you know Im talking to you boy, and if you think Im kidding, I'll be down there and Ill ram it down your fucking throat, I'm baaad when I get pissed!" Back in 84 when his voice first started giving him problems, and he was having a terrible night, I saw him jump off the stage and wade into the audience to pull a joint out of a guys hands. He was really pissed then. It made the paper and he canceled the next 4 four shows from then on his voice was going south. In the 80s they started not allowing folks to smoke anything in auditoriums, where as before that time people were smoking both cigarettes and pot. So it just happened that the only thing people were sneaking a smoke of was pot and it was the same time as Ian started having his voice problems. Odds are if people were smoking tobacco he would've been yelling at them also. So I dont think he was "spanking" people for smoking pot and getting high cause he was against it, so much as wishing they were not forcing HIM to smoke it too.... I see, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the details!

First Rate find Serge. Wolverhampton I think this is one of the earliest boots of that tour. You can hear a few flubs even. Instead of the "Mike Nelson Fish on the Line" Ian does the "Thoughrough bred race horse in the lobby, soiling the place" where a jockey is supposed to jump from the first row a go running out. Great recording, a lot of band laughs too. Darin

I am told that this is the first cd with TAAB, is that right?

I am told that this is the first cd with TAAB, is that right? Serge! you're welcome. (and DAMN! nice score on Dharma...for 1, right under our noses) I'd be interested to know if any of our English friends here actually saw the Jockey running for the lobby. I think they changed the phone call to Mike Nelson (who was a US television character, that was a diver, and wore a wetsuit and an ....aqualung) when the tour got to the US. I'm not supremely sure that it's the earliest recording of the TAAB show but its the earliest one I've seen, Wolverhampton being on March 19th. I believe the first actual full TAAB show was on March 2nd at the Guildhall in Portsmouth. Charlie would be a good one to ask about it, he is the archivist! Darin Cody Update! Seems the March 16th show is earliest that I have (and should've just checked the Ministry of Information which I usually do!) Victoria Hall, Stoke-On-Trent It is listed as "Soft Venus" or "The Other Half"

Darin Cody I seem to recollect that we had both the jockey and 'Mike Nelson' at the RAH gig in March, as well as the 'trouser swapping in the tent' routine and other skits. I had seen Johnny Winter a little while before this gig and thought it was impressive and then TaaB just blew away anything I had seen before. I'm looking forward to the June gigs at the RAH as the original group of us that went are 'reforming' to see the show as a reunion. Strangely, we will have more original members on show than the band does.
