I'm going to see them at Reading next week. I'm actually just getting into Jethro Tull, even though I first dabbled in the late eighties thanks to a Hungarian friend who inducted me to Crest of a Knave ('Budapest' has been my theme song many a time, as he's still a good friend and I visit there regularly, the track always playing in my mind).
I do want to know, though, what to expect...I like to know songs before I enjoy them live. I bought the TAAB album on vinyl last week, from the USA, and I am loving the whole shebang, despite the length which initially put me off. Sure that TAAB2 will grow on me...
I wanna have an idea if there is a set tracklist, or they mix it up, or are just doing TTAB1 & 2.

TAAB first, then a 20 minute intermission and then TAAB2. No encores. Enjoy the show and be sure to give us your review!

Friday 20 April 2012 Gig review: Ian Anderson, Perth Concert Hall Ian Anderson performing on stage. (Getty) By AIDAN SMITH Published on Monday 16 April 2012 00:00 In A hall full of men who may or may not have known how to turn off their mobile phones, 64-year-old Ian Anderson Skyped a violinist at home with her baby son direct into his latest musical entertainment. And I do mean “latest”. Most prog-rock legends are content to play the old stuff forever – Dark Side of the Moon 2 doesn’t exist and neither does Close to the Edge 2. But there is a Thick as a Brick 2 and this was its world premiere. A suite of songs, just like the 40-year-old original which was played first, and what a thrill to hear two concept albums in full. Flute-organ duels, drum solos, glorious codswallop. No other Jethro Tull stalwarts were on display but a young five-piece band proved able deputies, among them Ryan O’Donnell, a graduate of the floppy-fringed acting academy, who in harlequin breeks served as Anderson’s junior prog court minstrel, strolling and narrating and helping out on vocals when the boss was trilling up something baroque. As bawdy and bonkers as ever, Anderson may be forging ahead with the new technologies, but TAAB2 was much concerned with the past – old schooldays, Tompkins Minor, Fray Bentos pies – as he reflected on how his young hero, Gerard Bostock, had ended up a banker. He was also concerned about the well-being of his audience: “You sir, 52 you say, have you had your prostate checked?” He’d contemplated showing us the video of his own colonoscopy. Maybe next time. Rating: ****

Nice sound. Opening night jitters perhaps, but at least Ryan was able to get his lines and cues correct. Kismet was the only one I listened to so far and it sounds like Ian has some homework to do. Dan

Dan What's the issue? Just misread lyrics basically. But about 4 of them in this one song. In the first verse he substituted, a quiet cafe... "slow burn Suburbia for Starbuck euphoria." Whether a missed cue a or technical glitch , you can't hear Ian singing.."hell-raised aria" which was his line. Some mumbo -jumbo line where "Slow burn Suburbia" should be . At the beginning of the last verse he sings "Treasured moments, past and present" instead of "Bequethed comforts, ceramic hob". I know that's all nit-picky shit but new boy Ryan got his lines right. Probably just opening night nerves and problems but it was just my first observation so he gets a pass. Dan
