We're now about 2 months away from the supposed release date, and still no pre-order info on amazon US or UK or info on Jethro Tull's webpage.
C'mon already! BRING IT ON!
This is probably the best year for SW remixes so far with ELP, Tarkus, Larks', and TAAB, compared to 2011 (Caravan, Starless & Bible Black, Discipline, and Aqualung), 2010 (Poseidon and Islands) and 2009 (Crimson King, Lizard, and Red)

This new bit of information came from amazon.co.uk, and there's a few problems I have with it.
#1. It doesn't explain this
Now I understand amazon doesn't always post the correct number of discs for a release, but is it 3 or is it 2? Is there a Blu-Ray or this all we're getting? #2 (and more importantly), the only bonus material they could give us is a Radio Ad?! JTull completists will be happy to see that it looks like we get the new and original mix on the DVD, but the 5.1's not looking like high-res yet. I just pray if all we're getting is DVD that EMI at least have the courtesy to make the DTS mixes 96/24...

The bottom right hand corner says this: I'm intrigued by this 100 page book if we really are getting one. It'll probably include the original 16page newspaper as well as the March 2012 PROG magazine interview on TAAB. The Aqualung book also included text from the tour programme, yearly chronology, and interviews with the original recording engineer & SW, so it's possible that we could be getting similar material in this package. Maybe a moderator can expand on the packaging contents for this edition. So it seems like EMI are giving us super deluxe edition packaging without SDE quality audio. Now I can understand if there weren't any bonus tracks available for use, but I still cannot comprehend why EMI insist on giving us Audio DVDs instead of DVD-Audio or Blu-Ray! Now, as SW and others have said before, Blu-Ray is expensive to author, but there is NO good reason why they could not have given us DVD-A/V instead of just DVD-V. C'mon, if SONY can do it, why the hell can't EMI?!?!

EMI PRESS RELEASE
Jethro Tull's ‘Thick As A Brick’40th anniversary edition of the hugely successful, groundbreaking 1972 album Following the release earlier this year of the sequel to Jethro Tull’s Thick As A Brick, on November 5th EMI will release a 40th anniversary edition of the original album. In 1972, Ian Anderson wrote and recorded the Jethro Tull Progressive Rock classic album ‘Thick As A Brick’. The lyrics were credited at the time to the fictitious child character, Gerald Bostock, whose parents supposedly lied about his age. The record instantly became a number one Billboard Chart album and enjoyed considerable success in many countries of the world. The 40th Anniversary Edition features a new 5.1 stereo mix, mixed by Steven Wilson, plus a DVD containing DTS & Dolby Digital 5.1 surround mix, high quality stereos 96/24 (new mix and 1972 flat transfer), the original newspaper over 40 pages, an article by Classic Rock’s Dom Lawson, rare photos from photographers Didi Zill and Robert Ellis, recording and touring mementos and much more, all contained in 104 page 7 ½”x 5 ½” hardback book. It will also be available as a 2 LP set with the original Thick As A Brick remix, and the new Thick As A Brick 2, both as 180gm audiophile pressings and available for the first time in vinyl . The package also has a 72-page 12x12 book all held in a hard card slipcase. 40th Anniversary Edition book details:New stereo and 5.1 mixes by Steven Wilson Original 1972 recording at Morgan Studios by Robin Black The book contains: -the original newspaper rebuilt for the 12 x 12 format on 16 pages of newspaper style paper (but more durable). the 2012 newspaper printed on gloss paper (originally pdf files on the TAAB 2 DVD). -an article by Classic Rocks’ Dom Lawson about ‘Thick As A Brick’ -an Ian Anderson interview conducted by The Reverend George Pitcher covering both albums, and the current 2012 tour. -many rare 1972/73 photos from photographers Didi Zill and Robert Ellis covering ‘street’ and live situations and 2012 tour photos by Martin Webb. -memories of the recording from engineer Robin Black. -recording and touring memories from Martin Barre, Ian Anderson and Jeffrey Hammond. -a Q & A with tour manager Eric Brooks with tour memorabilia and the full 1972 itinerary. -Italian & German lyric translations of the original album and German, Czech, Italian, Polish, Russian, Spanish & Portuguese lyric translations for TAAB 2 LPA 2 x LP set with the original Thick As A Brick remixed, and the new Thick As A Brick 2, both as 180gm audiophile pressings and available for the first time in vinyl . The package also has a 72 page 12x12 book all held in a hard card slipcase. After 44 years of leading Tull to 54 countries worldwide and over 60 million albums sold, Ian Anderson celebrates a true progressive rock classic with old and new fans across the UK for a whole three weeks. Anderson is known as the flautist, singer and composer of the legendary Jethro Tull, formed in England in 1968 from the amalgamation of blues-based John Evan Band and McGregor’s Engine. Since their first performance at London’s famous Marquee Club in 1968, the band has released 30 studio and live albums and earned a prominent place in rock history. Thanks for the official info and high-quality pics Quizz Kid.
Despite the book, this is a disappointing release. My guess is these pinheads at EMI were so worried about giving us great deluxe packaging (and I am actually really excited about the book) that they forgot to give us HIGH-RES DELUXE QUALITY 5.1 AUDIO!!!!
I mean honestly, how much more would it cost to have included Blu-Ray in the package? About $25 is my guess. I understand Blu-Ray is expensive to author and replicate, but yet the labels fail to understand the extra costs associated with DVD-Audio THAT DO NOT EXIST!!!
I will definitely be getting this release cause Brick is my favorite Tull album, and SW can do no wrong with his remixing. However, my excitement level has dropped quite considerably, and I'm very disappointed with EMI. The company that gave us great quality products on Blu-Ray last year have now sunk to a low yet again.
And don't even get me started if the DTS isn't 96/24!

After hearing the original mix of the album a million and one times, I am intrigued to hear Wilson's mix.

Out of my frustration for the lack of high-res 5.1 in this set, I followed in the footsteps of Paul Sinclair by writing an open letter to Ian Anderson. I've posted it here www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=526487927367962&id=155624494454309¬if_t=likeon the Jethro Tull Facebook page, and I will also email it to Ian as well. If you agree with what I've said, simply like the post and/or add a comment below. Will this change anything for this release? Probably not, but I'm still hopeful that we can change things for the better for any future releases. Thank you.

Probably not, but I'm still hopeful that we can change things for the better for any future releases. Thank you. Yes I agree especially in view of the ELP releases which are at a bargain £10. Interestingly the Amazon UK site has the Tull cd box as containing 3 discs, but then frustratingly goes on to describe only 2 (!) www.amazon.co.uk/Thick-Brick-Anniversary-Special-Edition/dp/B008S6B480/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1347387177&sr=8-4So something wrong there methinks. Two discs I think is pretty poor value on the face of it at £28 despite the book which I'll be thrilled to open on Xmas morning but ...but... I'd rather have content. But lets wait and see the quality. Of course you can't please all the people all of the time, but the lack of the blu-ray is poor especially with the vinyl being unbundled to bring down costs. Thanks QK for posting the Press Release. Never mind, but there's only so many times I can join the dots up on Fluffy Duck. However I can't wait to see what else is in my Xmas stocking. I've asked Santa for Emma Stone. I should be so lucky. icyL

Naive question here, which may have already been answered elsewhere on this site (my apologies if this is the case), but will the segmented song sections be released on itunes prior to the November re-issue? That is to ask, what if one is simply interested in mp3 versions of the segmented song sections for download? Is the release of these necessarily tied to the bells & whistles associated the November release? And if so, I wonder why. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've been thinking today: what if they are holding the release of a Blu-ray for Thick as a Brick 1 (and 2) for a bundle later (next year perhaps) with IA's performance at Montreux??
It's wishful thinking, I know, but I'd like to see both things (both albums in Hi Def audio and that concert in HD)
