Ian went through a period in the eighties and nineties where he wrote a number of songs likening relations between the sexes to international relations and diplomacy, which I found very interesting.
Why do you suppose he kept returning to that theme? Any thoughts?
Has anyone found this comparison to be the case in their own relationships? If so, which songs and lyrics resonate the most with you? For me, I've always loved the line "did our friends all catch the needle match, did we want them to" from Flying Colors, because I know exactly what he means by that.

The Iron Curtain/Detente metaphors Ian used for sexual/flirting situations, in 'said She Was a Dancer' and 'Budapest' are brilliant. The keyboards in 'Flying Colours' make me wretch: James Bond soundtrack meets Journey.
