Greetings Tullians, Many things to report...sorry it's been so long. First off, we had a great gig in NY a few weeks back. We did the entire side one of TAAB plus an ending section from side 2. This was our best show ever, and the crowd was amazingly appreciative. We did two sets (a lot of music!) but did not prepare for an encore....people cheered for 5 minutes after we walked off...we felt bad about that. Lesson learned...always have an encore ready! This show featured our new keyboardist, the great Christopher Sierzchula (from SITU), who was stellar on the Brick, etc.! Also, we had our first gig with new phenom guitarist Ron LoCurto (who has been compared to Satriani and other masters), who joined John Berg on incredible lick after lick of blazing guitar work....youtubes up soon. Ron joined us after the departure of Erin, whom we miss and greatly appreciate his efforts in the past. Erin did a great job for us, and his musical contributions, as well as his awesome posters and video work, will be missed. Prior to our last show in NY, John and I had the priviledge of seeing the TAAB show in Denver (lucked out getting front row center) and then had a very private and wonderful meeting with Ian backstage after the show....no one else there but us and Ian. A rare meeting, and special to say the very least. Ian was in great spirits, very cordial, and allowed us to bother him and take some pics despite the fact that the band was waiting for him out in the bus! Thanks Ian. As for future events....we will be doing more NY dates in 2013...TBA. Also, there are current possible plans to play a major event in Florida, as well as shows in Colorado and maybe elsewhere if time permits. We have some surprises in store, and may even throw in an original or two...possibly even a re-worked version of SITU with heavy guitar jam ending. We are also considering putting together a Tull fan convention in Colorado in May....a great time for Tullians to travel to beautiful Colorado, see the sights, chat with old Tull friends, and share in our musical tribute to the greatest band of all time. More info soon...if this develops, we will ask long-time Tull convention organizers to assist in putting together an exciting event with us. Everyone's input is welcome, so let us know your thoughts. It's for you! Best wishes to you all, and thanks for your continued support. On behalf of LWTP, I hope you all have a great holiday season and a fan-tastic 2013. Cheers, Ray - LWTP Check out our new FB page at: www.facebook.com/livingwiththepastband

Date/Time: The date of the main event is Saturday May 18th. Showtime is 8:15. General admission doors open at 7:00 (200 tix). VIP admission is 5:30 (Only 100 VIP tix available).
Tix available via Paypal at lwtp@universerecords.com or phone at the Dickens Opera House.
Note: There will be an additional Living with the Past show the night before on Friday May 17th...venue TBA. It is also possible that the Friday show might be at the Dickens Opera House, but most likely will be in Denver. Watch our website (www.universerecords.com) or our FB page for updates.
Convention Venue: Dickens Opera House - Longmont, CO (303) 834-9384 - 300 Main St
We have selected the beautiful, historic, Dickens Opera House for this special event. The Opera House has a full bar, food service, and a full restaurant downstairs that offers a wide variety of high quality choices at reasonable prices. The venue has a large stage, great sound, outstanding service, and a first class atmosphere with tables and comfortable booths.
Hotel: Hampton Inn - Longmont, CO (303) 772-2554 - 850 S. Main St When calling for hotel reservations tell them you are with the Jethro Tull Convention group...they are giving us special rates on whichever type room you choose ($109/ 2 queens, $118 king)....great hotel, continental breakfast included, fitness center, pool, free high speed internet, etc. The hotel is on the same road as the Dickens Opera House. There are also many other hotels in the area, but the Hampton is very nice and close to the venue. If you need help looking into other options let us know. The Super 8 Motel is 3.5 mi from the venue...$69.99 nt....2446 N. Main St., 303-772-8106.
Directions: From the Denver Airport, as you exit the airport get off at the 470, and stay on that till you get to I-25 (towards Fort Collins)....stay right off that exit and get onto I-25. Take I-25 north and get off at Exit 240 (Longmont) and go left. Take 119 west until you get to Longmont, and make a left at S. Main St. The hotel is 0.2 miles on the left side of S. Main St. There are many stores and restaurants in the area. There is a large plaza area at the corner of 119 and S. Main with all the popular restaurants, Walgreen's etc. The Opera House is 0.9 miles north of the hotel.
VIP ticket holders can access the venue at 5:30PM Sat night for a meet and greet with other fans. Enter at the side door of the Opera House on 3rd St. The first 50 VIP attendees will receive a free copy of the LWTP with Dave Pegg Jethro Tull 40th Anniversary DVD CD set. Once in the venue, you may select the table/booth of your choice...put your name on the table name tag, which will hold your table until show time. Special Jethro Tull - provided door prizes will be drawn at this time. The band will be busy setting up during this time and will do their sound check for the show. At 6:30PM, you can either depart the hall, or stay there and mingle if you prefer. Dinner is served upstairs so you can stay there and eat if you wish, or you can also have dinner at the restaurant downstairs. The doors will open for the show at 7:00PM, and the show will start around 8:15, so you will need to be back in the hall by 8:15....your table will be reserved so there's no need for you to get there early unless you choose to, or of course you can just stay in the opera house the whole time if you wish.
Other Stuff: You are in Colorado, so the sky's the limit as to what you might want to do while on your Tull vacation.
If you wish to see Boulder, it is 15-20 minutes from the hotel...just head west on 119. If hiking is in your plans, Hall Ranch is very beautiful and not far away (it's an easy hike...not steep). Just take S. Main St. north for 3.5 miles till you get to Highway 66. Make a left and head towards the mountains...go through the town of Lyons and make a left at Rt 7....Hall Ranch is a short drive up Rt 7 on the right. Rt 7 is a spectacular drive through the canyon, so you might want to take a drive up that road to see amazing scenery...there are places to stop along the way. If you prefer to see Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes, make a right in Lyons at take Rt 36 into Estes.
As for restaurants, there is a wide variety. If you want to get some real authentic Mexican food, Efrain's is awesome and close to your hotel near the Safeway on 119. The venue for the gathering also has a great restaurant, good quality food and drinks, and reasonable....(prime rib dinner is $17.) There are many fast food places around, and lots of restaurants in the plaza area near the hotel.
We recommend you do a little exercising a few weeks before your trip to get in shape if you need to to handle the altitude and thinner air....it'll make your trip more fun. Also drink plenty of water in Colorado to stay hydrated..the air is very refreshing here but is also very dry!
If you have any suggestions on how we can add to the gathering please let us know. If you should need any assistance during your stay, we'll be glad to help. Call us anytime at 720-217-1472. You can email us as well at lwtp@universerecords.com.
Happy Tulling, and enjoy your stay! Ray, Carol, and Living with the Past
Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends....ooops, that's a different band, but you get the idea!

All is on track for the US Convention on May 18th. Tull-provided prizes and lots of hard core Tull fans together in Colorado. Ah yes, Springtime and Tull in the Rockies. Ian will not be doing a Colorado show this next tour, so this'll be the only chance to see live Tull jams in CO this year.
Here's a video just put up of one of the LWTP guitarists, Ron LoCurto, in a recent jam session in Nashville. Wait till you see what he has in store for the convention jams....

Of course we're expecting the "new and improved" Tommie to refrain from taking shots at other members like that. As Erin has stated, it's best to treat one another as if we're face to face.
Ray, can you elaborate on this event please. Is this a concert, a convention, or both?

Get grassy or troll for Tull in Longmont this weekendWhitewater Ramble will perform Saturday at Left Hand Brewing's "Summer Jam." (Whitewater Ramble, Courtesy photo)Take your pick -- do you like the country side of rock or the hard side of rock? Either way, you've got a show to go to Saturday night. Left Hand Brewing kicks off its "Summer Jam" concert series with Front Range bluegrass rockers Whitewater Ramble. Local country artists Bonnie and the Clydes and Americana band Grant Farm round out the lineup. The show is planned to run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Dickens Opera House, starting at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, will be the site of a Jethro Tull convention that features a performance by Living with the Past. The band, fronted by Ray Roehner, tries to bring meticulous attention to the often complex compositions and arrangements of Jethro Tull's brand of hard rock.
"We're the only Jethro Tull tribute band in the world that has been endorsed by Jethro Tull," said Roehner, who lives west of Longmont. "The music is difficult ... we've worked hard through the years to try to nail down the music."
Jethro Tull has provided CDs and memorabilia to be handed out as raffle and special prizes during the convention, Roehner said. The event features "a couple surprises" that Roehner said he could not yet reveal.
"It's more of an event than a performance," he said of the evening.
Jethro Tull was famous partly because its frontman and visionary, Ian Anderson, showed that a flute could be a legitimate rock instrument.Whitewater Ramble, meanwhile, is reinforcing the notion that drums mix well with bluegrass instruments. With mandolin on one hand and a trap set on the other -- and fiddle, guitar and upright bass filling out the sound -- Whitewater Ramble creates music it calls "High-Octane Rocky Mountain DanceGrass." Taking a cue from drum-friendly Colorado acts rooted in bluegrass, such as Leftover Salmon and The String Cheese Incident, Patrick Sites knew when the band first started he wanted Whitewater to groove. "Every one of us at heart are rock 'n' rollers," said Sites, who plays mandolin and sings. "We love traditional music ... We love rock and roll more. We just happen to play bluegrass instruments." The band recently released "Roots & Groove" with a show at the Wildflower Pavilion at Planet Bluegrass in Lyons. It's the band's second studio album, and it was produced by Railroad Earth's Tim Carbone and features guest appearances by Andy Thorn, banjo player for Leftover Salmon, and Andy Hall, dobro player for the Infamous Stringdusters. Left Hand spokesman Josh Goldberg said Ozomati will perform at the brewery's next summer concert, scheduled for June 22. Quentin Young can be reached at 303-684-5319 or qyoung@times-call.com. www.timescall.com/lifestyles/entertainment/ci_23257465/left-hand-brewing-summer-jam-concert-jethro-tull-tribute-band-living-past

Here's Ian's greeting to fans at the recent Living with the Past/U.S. Jethro Tull Convention in Colorado. The Convention was a big hit and we've never seen Tull fans so enthusiastic...dancing like crazy up front. The band put on its best show ever and is in the process of finalizing video footage for promo distribution. Some youtubes will go up late this week. Note that the video is NOT edited/overdubbed from a multitrack. Sound is right off the board. We wanted it to be real, not enhanced. The video is in HD so it is quite good quality. I think folks will be shocked when they see the energy and intensity of the performance, as well as the musicianship. While of course we miss Erin and some of our previous alumni, the new band is quite good and Ron LoCurto put on a stellar performance. We've had several interesting offers to play in various places and are weighing those options now. We can now confirm that we will play in NY on Sat Sept 7th at the Tralf Music Hall. Opening our show will be Ron LoCurto and the Reinhardts with a set of the amazing Jeff Beck. Jethro Tull meets Jeff Beck...should be a helluva show.
Exciting new development: Doane has been in direct contact with me to do a show with LWTP, plus Martin Barre may join the chorus. They would do their own material plus play with LWTP on Tull stuff. We're working on details now and I'll keep you all posted. Who knows? Maybe we can get Ian and Peggy to join if all looks good for the event.

Doane and Martin are quite keen on doing something with LWTP. Doane has asked if our guys can read music, which of course they can (3 have masters degrees), so learning their music would be fairly straightforward.
Then the question is, do we have the chops for it. I think once folks see the video later this week of our CO show they'll realize this is an altogether different band and we have finally gotten it to a new level. These guys are pro. Can I play flute like Ian...no! But who can?? Our performance is very reminiscent of the 70s era of Tull, in that we play with a lot of heart, intensity, and energy. It's in our veins, and I think you'll see that in our performance. The other factor that I think gives LWTP a level of respect with Tull, is that we deliver a rather unique performance for a trib band. We do not look or act like Tull, nor do we dress like them, wear wigs, etc. LWTP is all about the music, theatrics aside. I like and respect the trib bands that do try to mimic the bands they cover, and there is room for us all, but my personal preference is to try to just be ourselves. Fans have told us they appreciate that kind of delivery as well. I was asked in a recent interview if I stand on one leg and play flute. I said an emphatic, no! My feeling on that, is that that the standing on one leg is Ian's trademark, like a copyright. He invented it, does it, and deserves that to be his own. Our band feels honored and privileged to just do their great music, and we are happy to keep it at that. I also think ripping off someone's music for financial gain is bordering on evil. We always give them respect and credit, donate to charities, pay appropriate licensing fees, and our sole purpose in doing Tull music is to promote them and pay homage to this music that has touched our lives and helped to make us who we are today.
We'll get the new video out soon so you can see for yourselves, and judge accordingly.
Will we do more? Maybe. Conventions are very tough and expensive to put on. There is a movement for us to play again in CO on May 17, 2014, maybe with Doane and other Tull members. We will do occasional LWTP shows as well in the meantime. We want to carry the torch as long as we can, but honestly, it is difficult these days with as hectic life is for us all. Let's let the cosmos determine if it's all feasible. For now, we're just riding the wave of the eternal Tull vacuum!
My advice, is for those of you who have the opportunity to attend these events, do it. Life is short and we are all growing older. Don't wait till you are 80 and say, gee I wish I had seen this or that.
Best wishes all, and thanks for your interest in our project.

Glad to hear everything went so well, and thanks for posting the greetings from Doane and Ian as they were nice to see. Your band has always sounded terrific as far as I'm concerned. I've always felt the greatest challenge has to be covering Ian - specifically as a vocalist, since his voice is so unique. How was the turnout in Colorado? Would have loved to been there but it's a bit too far for me!

I'm pretty good at impersonations...do John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Walter Brennan, etc. all pretty well. But as far as the Tull I prefer to use my own voice for more originality. We aren't the kind you go to see to hear a Tull copy....we are about the music and coloring it all with our own personal touch. In that sense we are not a true "tribute band". We do many songs differently than Tull. Note to note replications of songs is admirable and appealing, but sometimes it's more interesting to stray a bit from the original and do it your own way, whilst still maintaining the integrity of the original song of course. Otherwise, folks could just stay home and listen to the CDs if we all sounded the same. I think making the songs slightly different is actually kind of cool to listen to and shows that we are thinking outside the box a bit. Hope that makes sense. There can only ever be ONE Tull! I saw a few songs last night from the video company that did our show in CO, and I think you folks will like the new clips we will soon put up. Then you can say we suck (as some will of course), or, hopefully, that you liked them. No matter what your opinion, I think you'll agree that we have the Tull spirit in our cells, and that is sure to be recognized, and hopefully appreciated. After all, it's for you...

Well thanks for that Ray, I totally get where your coming from here. That whole note for note thing is really a bore. Unfortunately I wasted years doing just that. This is back when I used to practice every morning before work, in the early nineties, I'd been playing since 72 but I lay off for six months or so and have to get back in shape and Tull was always willing to provide a little workout. I think I'd just learned Pan Dance, so I was still searching for those pesky notes. So this is dedicated to you and your dedication in bringing Ians great flute lines to a hungry public. I never got a chance to form a Tull tribute band, we never played more then 3 or 4 Tull songs when I did covers, we had the silly idea of writing originals.....but we all know that thats a dead end. This is my imitation of a guy who apparently needs to go to the bathroom, but once I started practicing I couldn't quit! Darin Cody

Thanks! One of a couple things I'm working on. We're just getting started and chipping away at a bunch of material I've never played with anyone before. Maybe someday we can reach the "world renowned status" I helped create with LWTP (who are now stocked up with some great talent) but that took a ton of work on my part and not what's most important. It's nice to have an outlet for playing the music I love.
