On March 27th I saw the look of fear and frustration on Ian's face. I was very concerned not knowing what had happened. Later the blood clots could have killed him.

Is that Matt Pegg playing bass? Thanks for posting this. I wonder at what point does Ian make the decision to not go on. I feel bad for the people that got an "Ian in a wheelchair" show. I'm sure that for some shows it was that or nothing but still......I would feel a bit .......cheated. Darin

The Bass would be Jonathan Noyce. The performance in '96 was all about "Roots to Branches" which made it special indeed. Seeing Ian struggle to play while maneuvering the wheelchair was somewhat inspiring. My shock at first became sheer delight with his unstoppable desire to perform. Even my 17 year old son was impressed to see Tull for the first time with his old man. ;D

When exactly did Noyce join the band? For a while Matt Pegg was standing in for Dave before Noyce. Just wondered.

Darin this is how I think the bass sorts out
Dave Pegg's last gig was on May 28 94
Matt Pegg's first gig was July 6 1994 last gig was October 13 1994
Steve Bailey -sessions for Roots To Branches December 1994 to January 1995?
Jonathan Noyce Divininties tour from May 17 1995 to June 15 1995 joins Tull September 16 1995
I hope this makes sense

I think my memory for seventies Tull is better, it also wasn't so varied in terms of personel changes.....the pic of Noyce must be squeezed to make him "a tall thin" bass player. Darin

Thank goodness he's OK and still with us. Still crazy the whole thing happened. DVT almost killed my stepfather a couple of years ago. The blood clot was in his lung and he had horrible pains. Thankful he's OK too and I printed out the useful IA DVT info on the Tull site for him.

It was a very scary time to be a Tull fan, and thankfully he made it. I remember seeing Tull later that year (on the tour with ELP), and he was back on his feet, but visibly limping around the stage. Musically, the show was great, but I was concerned for the man! Thankfully, he weathered that particular storm, but it was pretty hairy...

I saw a show where Tan come out limping and using a cane the whole show. He couldnt do any prancing around. If I saw a show where he had to be in a wheelchair, I'd be really pissed and feel gypped. But....
