Well, sort of.
1) In Sept, 1987 Ian was on WNEW-FM here in NYC (with MB and DP) promoting "Crest...". They were taking phone calls and I was able to get thru. The DJ (Scott Muni?) said no more calls would be on the air but I an would talk to whomever was still holding on, off air. Now, people who kinda know of my love/hate relationship with Ian (love his music/hate his 'business' and $ approach to everything)know I can be acerbic. I'm one of the few people who loved Under Wraps and even Walk Into Light.......because he's a GREAT songwriter. But when both of those sold poorl, rather than go with his musical muse, Ian did his market research thing with fans in a bunch of cities.
So, he gets on the phone, and even tho it's just me and him he says: "Well. hello there, Tull fan how are you?" and I proceed to tell him that I dont dig the fact that he feels he had to do this kind of "research" to make sre that "Crest" is a hit. That he was successful enough already and to do the kind of music HE feels he wants to do. And he goes"Oh, no no that's noot the reason. Chrysalis now has a whole new set of people running it and I needed to show them that we were still a marketable band" Me (naively, perhaps): "Why does it have to be Chrysalis? You can get another contract with someone else or, or an album doesnt sell well at least ur following your own musical vision " Him: "Nice talking to you, goodbye"

(At this pont I'm getting a little fed up with Ian playing the same old songs and playing in venues like this which was a NIGHTCLUB! Seriously, like a Sinatra-esque kinda joint with everyone at round tables! But call me a masochist cuz I go anyway. I'm at atable righ next to the stage and at the table next to me a a bunch of drunk, loud, obnoxious gambletypes who keep screaming out "Aqualung!" "Locomorive Breath!" etc and people are drunk at other table, too. Ian stops in the middle of a song and goes over to their table and tells them to shut the fuck up, the rest of the place gets kinda boisterous.
Ian's right in front of me & I'm pissed at this point and say/scream at him: "What do expect, man! You play these casinos and expect a respectful crowd?!"
