Written by Babs Powell, Cherry Gillespie, Dee Dee Wilde, Ruth Pearson and freelance writer Simon Barnard it's released this week, November 2013.
This is the story of the girls who went on from being "The Beat Girls" and who later became the UK's leading dance troupe, and the pin ups of many a 15 year old, in 60's and 70's Britain as "Pan's people".
The book highlights their careers in interview format and touches on their involvement in the 1974 London Rainbow "Warchild" Tull concerts, a series of gigs I was lucky enough to have attended.....Tull and Pans People...it was just almost too much!
The interview section about the gigs includes a few comments from Ian as well as comments from a few of the girls about the shows, the music and of course the "obscene" costumes as they are described.
I was lucky enough to have been invited to attend a small gathering of what seemed mostly friends and family, where three of the 'Pan's People' girls appeared in conversation to launch the book, I was even luckier to have met them and chatted, along with meeting a couple of other notables including Robert Powell the actor and husband of Babs.
Even better was the hope of something more being arranged exclusively for The Board.
I'm beginning to like this, despite all the shit [Sh1t for the faint-hearted] lobbed in our direction at times, this year I've got to party in NY and Boston with some great people, spent a good few hours in the company of the delightful Jane Colthorp, and now 3 of Pan's People, including the lovely and bubbly Ruth Pearson.
