Hello Tullians, At our recent Living with the Past Tull tribute show in NY, some fans came up to me after the show and gave me two wonderful gifts....gifts to us all really as it turned out. The first, is an original Tull show poster from 1970 that was in perfect condition. Ironically, it was the very first Tull show I myself ever attended, which made it extra special for me! Obviously, that show changed my life in a profound way... The other gift was a bag full of tape reels, video material of vintage Tull concert footage, some never before seen, from the early 70s shows. I was stunned that they gave this to me, but the guy explained that he was getting old and wanted us to have it so it all went to good use. It looks like a substantial amount of video tape. My quandary is, I don't feel quite right about having this, thinking it is property that should go to Ian. I need to decide the best way to go about this. I may have it converted to DVDs, and then ship it off to Ian. Not sure yet how to deal with this bounty. I would think Ian would want the fans to see this footage, but that should be his decision, not mine. So that is what I will do...off to Ian it goes. Hopefully Ian will review it, and release it. Many thanks to the fans at our show who gave us this wonderful gift of roses. Tull fans are the best! Here is the poster, and an unedited clip from that show. Cheers, Ray and LWTP Minstrel in NY***

Cheers, Ray and LWTP View AttachmentMinstrel in NY*** Hello Ray, I'm glad you had a good turnout and someone decided to stow upon you some lost video footage. I would disagree and reconsider the decision to turn footage over to Mr. Anderson. I gather from the post that you haven't viewed it yet and if it is at all rough or not professionally filmed or performances don't show the band in a favorable light then that stuff will never be released. Perhaps a fraction would be included in some compilation video years down the road but since there is no copyright infringement , I would rather see it posted for the fans. The guy on YouTube , TullTapes , seems to do a great job transferring and syncing old video and maybe you could reach out to him. I can only speak for myself but I'm sure there are others that would love to see unreleased footage from the '70's and not have to wait for an official release. They're still dragging their feet on how to release the TABB 1&2 video from a few years back. Dan

I understand your concerns Dan, and would love to have everyone see these tapes as they are. I'm a bit different though than most fans, since my band has a relationship with Ian and James, and a good one at that....they have been supportive of our humble tribute band project and have kindly helped us out many times, not to mention permission to play their music. I'm sure Ian would not take kindly to me releasing bootleg material like this, and frankly I wouldn't feel right about it myself. Others can do what they wish and let the legal chips fall where they may. But copyright infringement is a big deal (ask Mrs. Zappa!) and I respect Ian and want to do the right thing. (Maybe the guy gave these tapes to the wrong person!)
Now, having said all that (which you probably did not want to hear), I will endeavor, as requested by them, to handle the conversion aspects from tape to DVDs. I will then hand off the DVDs to Ian and James for their review and decision to disseminate as they deem appropriate. I will also ask them if they would object to us having copies and giving fans access. If the video quality is inferior they may say, sure, go ahead and do what you wish with it. But that needs to be their decision, and we should respect that. If worse comes to worse and they allow me myself to have DVDs but not to distribute them to anyone else, then maybe we can throw a big party someday and view them all together on a big screen somewhere, maybe even coupled with a Tull convention. Ian may be OK with that. Let's see what's in the bag of tapes first, and go from there. I will keep the forum folk posted on developments later this summer. I will likely hand off the DVDs to Ian and James on tour so this needs to all get done fairly soon. I will say, that the guy who gave me the videotapes said that some of the material is really quite good, so I'm sure that some of this material will be very salvageable and enjoyable to watch. A full length PP show sure would be great!! Cross your fingers in the sky, and we'll see how this all turns out.
Cheers, Ray and LWTP

Hopefully, there is some good stuff there and maybe you can give us your opinion and let us know what is in them after viewing them . I just read the interview that Preston posted about the TAAB 1 & 2 2012 Iceland footage being officially released around September. Cheers, Dan

Thanks for understanding Dan. After all these years, the last thing we want to do is piss off the very guys we have so respected for so long. I think Ian and James may allow us to do something with all this, but they just need to see what it is. For instance, I recall one show in the early 70s when Ian was very sick with the flu. At one point of a song, he walked back to stage right, got down on all fours, and puked his brains out. He finished, wiped his mouth, ran out to center stage, grabbed his flute, and started wailing the most amazing solo! I knew from then on that he was indeed the greatest rock performer of all time....anyone else would have cancelled the show! My point is....if something like that is on these tapes....Ian surely would not want it out in the public! I'll keep you posted. Have a good summer all, Ray
