Just wondering if the quads from the aqualung and warchild boxes sound complete in surround sound? Every now and then I notice a sound missing on my 2 speaker set up. I assume they would sound great on quad record player but how about surround cd/dvd?

Got any examples? I think the quads sound better digitally as this system is better than the old vinyl quad. The quad mixes are original, but of course the 5.1 mixes are Steven Wilson's, and sometimes things are added or deleted.
Are you mixing down to stereo, or listening to the stereo mix?

I'm just listening to the quads on my computer. I suppose I have 4 speakers and a sub so I guess that is surround lol. But I notice on songs such as Cross eyed Mary that there are flute and piano bits that are very quiet at the start that are loud on the original version. The flute solo in the middle is quiet also. It's as if they could only be heard on a quad record player. I can't see why they would want to have really quiet flute so I'm pretty sure these quads aren't complete sounding on cd/dvd. I love the quad vocals though. Lots of layering

Are you listening to SW 5.1 (as quad) or original quad mixes? I'll have a listen.

Would you be able to check Cross eyed Mary quad 5.1 and quad original to see if the flute at the start is quiet in both? I assume they are pretty much the same. Wish there was a $50 Aqualung box without the vinyl as with the Warchild box.

Interesting! I listened to Cross Eyed Mary with vinyl (stereo), and SW New Mix in stereo and 5.1, Original mix (stereo) and Original Quad mix (4.1) on Blu-Ray lossless Master Audio.
The flute intro is on the right hand side, and the main differences are that the mellotron is more pronounced on SW mixes. The flute does stand out a little more on the 5.1, but not much. It is a little back in the mix, compared to the original stereo mix, but that might be just that the mellotron is louder. The flute in the quad mix has added echo, and the quad mix is not nearly as good as SW 5.1.
Again, Steven has placed Ian's double tracked vocals centre front, and centre rear. Listening to this reminds me how good the new mix is!

So I don't think my set up is right for 5.1. Speaking of quads, I just received my Warchild box and I can't get any sound from the quads at all but I can hear everything else on that dvd. Has anyone else had this problem?

I tried the dvd on my tv and the quads worked. I want to burn these to my computer and convert to mp3. I wonder if you can get the full sound without using surround sound. Would this be possible or will a headphone set up always be missing bits and pieces when listening to quads?

If not, you are only getting the front channels, and will miss out on a lot. The best solution is to invest in a blu-ray player and modest 5.1 surround!

Even mixed down, you should hear the flute at least as loud as the stereo version. But I thought the 5.1 emphasised it a little more. Maybe your right channel is down? Geoff

I'll try listening to Cross eyed Mary quad in my headphones to see how it sounds. Did anyone try copying the Warchild quads from the boxset to their computer?

I finally got to hear the quads with the headphones. I assumed Bungle was the same version as the one on the 25th box set but it wasn't. What version is the 25th box version?
