So I mentioned before that I took my guy to the IA Wiltern show. I had been under the impression that he was at least slightly familiar with some of the music. Apparently I was wrong. So I've been making special versions of the albums, with the extra stuff where I think it really should go. Created info and lyric sheets, plus a 'homework' page that comes back to me with easy questions: What songs did you like? What songs were you not so thrilled with? Any other comments or questions?
What I have learned so far about his tastes in music (Admittedly incomplete)
Huge Rush fan.
RenFaire geek (Poxy Boggards, Wicked Tinkers, and this band that plays pirate faires that he just played me a song from tonight, forgot their name already dammit!)
Both of us share the love of comedy/novelty stuff (IE, such as is played on the Dr. Demento show). We went to a Weird Al show last year, was AWESOME!
Has quite the streak of metal running through him (Go figure...)
And last week I discover that he's already conversant with both Fairport and Steeleye (just not sure yet to what exact extent). So my question is now: How the hell did he miss Tull? (I dun get it...)
About 3 weeks ago I dropped the first 2 albums on him. Would have had more given between then and now, but my stupid printer ran outta ink! I find out this evening he hasn't listened yet because he thought they were mp3 discs and he needed a computer. Umm nope, audio CD, stick it in the home/car stereo. *shakes head*
Now I want to provide live shows in between the albums. I've only got 3 from 1969, so I chose Seattle because it was nice n long. Tonight I gave him that plus Benefit and Wight (so short though). I wanted to do Carnegie, but would prefer it to be truly complete. Has anyone out there ever attempted to edit Permission and Dharma back into the rest of the show? If not, I can try, but it would be really time-consuming. Any other suggestions for a decent sounding long '70 show? I have 1/21 Gothenburg, 2/21 Frankfurt (Pawnshop), 5/1 Fillmore West, 7/7 Tanglewood, 7/28 Port Chester, & 10/19 Anaheim (Flute Cake). Any o' them a good choice, or is something else better?
And that question stands for the rest of the years/tours. I'm calling on all you experts as to what I should use for good representatives as this educational course goes on.
Once I start getting the 'homework' back I will be reporting here on the results, also contrasting it with my own choices/opinions. (I have the feeling I'll be relearning a little here and there myself!)
Let's make this conversion stick! Hahaha... *rubs hands together with glee*
