On Sunday, the new HBO series 'Treme' (pronounced "Tre-May") kicks off at 10:00 p.m. It is a ten-part fictional story about the types of people who refused to leave New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and whose passion and love for the place helped to rebuild the city, which was literally underwater for several months after the hurricane. The series is receiving rave reviews all around, and is said to be superbly written and acted, and at times, incredibly poignant and sad. Reviewers are saying that there has never been anything like it on television before, and that it is not to be missed. The main character is a jazz musician who, like all of the survivors, is down on his luck and trying to rebuild a life for himself and his family. The musical score which accompanies is said to be outstanding, and it includes the likes of Dr. John, Steve Earle, Elvis Costello and many others. One of the story's characters is Annie, who along with her boyfriend is a street musician struggling to make a dollar. Annie is played by our very own Lucia Micarelli, so if you've got HBO tune in Sunday night to see this great program! Lucia Micarelli makes her debut tonight on the second installment of the HBO series, Treme. (See my earlier post in this thread for details.) Treme, pronounced Tre-May, is a New Orleans neighborhood that was deluged by the flooding after Hurricane Katrina.
The first episode featured John Goodman and a guest appearance by Elvis Costello. The main characters and plot of this fictional post-Katrina story -- and the inhabitants who stayed there and rebuilt the devastated city and its musical heritage -- was introduced on last week's episode, which is repeated fairly regularly so you can still catch it if you have HBO. Lucia plays a street musician struggling to survive, and her character will be introduced tonight.
The series has received universal acclaim from critics, and is well worth watching.
