agh, this is tough. I kinda always do pay attention to the music first whenever i listen to a song i havent heard before... But the lyrics come equally important in no time. Sometimes you come across songs that could stand alone with just music, but in general lyrics and music complete each other... or at least they should =P So i cant vote for just one.

im a young lad myself too (20 years old) and i totally see yer point. Most times when i mention Tull to people of my age they dont know what the hell im blabbering about...... yet again, i dont talk to many people 8,D heh... aaaaanyways, I rarely ever get anyone thrilled over Tulls music either. Even if these people are already digging some classic rock bands hm. I actually got a friend of mine who listens like Muse and lady gaga more excited over some tull songs than these classic rock people... which i find kinda interesting.

I used to be a big fan of Guns n roses on my early days of discovering rock n metal music, but I rarely ever listen em anymore. Though theyre an important band to me in a sense that they inspired me to look up a lot of other rock bands n so on...
Oh and also Van Halen. Maaan, i really cant put my finger on when i last listened them O_0 They were also one of those bands i listened on my early days of rock fanhood. David Lee Roth Van halen that is. Never liked Van Hagar... though, odly, the first Van Halen i ever heard was from Gary Cherone era.

I find that, with this album, I can never just play one song from it... I either listen to the entire thing; front to back, or nothing at all. (Unless it's Dark Ages... I'll play that on repeat.) Good thing to point out--the album is very well structured one song after the other. North Sea Oil as the first track really sets the mood for the album, tight musicianship, great lyrics and imagery, northern Isles atmosphere. This is one reason why i really love this album. I pretty much always listen music one album at a time, instead of one song at a time. So its always even more enjoyable when an album is well structured and works as a whole music experience... instead of just having one song after another, without clearly having any thought put into what order they are on album and so on....

will you chase me with pitchforks and torches if i say my number one band isnt really the one expected on this forum? =P Judas Priest takes that place for me.
But other top ones with Tull are AC/DC, Black sabbath, Dio, Sabaton, Slayer, iron maiden.... agh, i could go on forever, i love too many bands/artists -__-"

hm. i checked out the butthole surfers. and i really cant put my finger on them >>... I guess its just not the kinda music i usually listen to agh. nine inch nails. i have a friend who bloody loves them. never been a big fan myself but they have some really great tunes. "With teeth" is a good album... great when drunk. It helps to have a young person teach you new ideas. i suppose so =P maaan, I have brainwashed my dad to listen sooo many metal bands... its crazy (while my folks has introduced me to some rockabilly and classic rock). We have also went to so many metal concerts together. He's almoust in his 50's, yet he can still bare with my "hey lets go line up 10 hours before the gates open for iron maiden show" -kinda crazyness and always barges straight to the front row with me =P Thats how we roll.

I havent listen ministry that much, but ive started to quite enjoy them. they seem to have quite straightforward industrial influences which didnt strike me that well at first. But then I happened to saw them live in the summer. Good times, totally busted both my knees in the circle pit. (clumsy me.) never heard of these butthole surfers before, i must check them out. and thank you for introducing me to Ufomammut. maan, they really have a unique sound. hm. heres another band i saw in the summer. Sabaton! most of their songs are with lyrical themes of historical wars... Which suits well with the history geek in me =P (I am absolutely nuts over this band).

Thunderous 65 is awesome, never heard it before. This is getting pretty heavy. I think I need to unleash "Dopesmoker" ah, fuckin' classic album. I shall meddle along with Swedens Rammstein and quite awesome new power metal (now what famous metal singer does theirs remind you off? =P ) so much talk about just them ol dinosaur metal bands here, why not throw in a few new ones... (though Dinosaur metal is still the greatest, i think)

What albums are you thinking of getting next? I'd recommend Stand up next maybe heavy horses. Anything from the Seventies really. It kinda not quite the same after 1979. Enjoy. i'd also agree. if you like songs from the wood you will also like heavy horses. And stand up is just a must listen.

Your art is wonderful; I like how you do both serious portraits and more humorous caricatures. It's great to have that range of style. David haha. ive been the so called "joker of the group" ever since i was 7 so ive been drawing humorous caricatyres and comics for ages. which i, myself, find the most hilarious offcourse... AND speaking of that. heres another one. inspired by the bloody crazyest dream i had some nights ago. a dream featuring Ian as the bloody mental villain... that suited him dreadfully well. but anyways, this scene made me laugh out loud in my sleep, i just had to put it on paper. weird ol things, dreams.... by the way, that plan of destruction was a failure.
