The all-time loser who's woman and his best friend are in bed and having fun? That is a very, very good guess, and it comes extremely close to the clue, but not all the way, because I believe to be a cuckold you have to be married (big hint right there), and in this case the song just refers to the all time loser's "woman" which could be a girlfriend. And the song is silent as to whether the all time loser was or was not aware of the fact that his woman and best friend were in bed and having fun. Jeff

Im gonna take a stab in the dark at Pibroch
Catching breath as he looks through the dining-room window: Candle lit table for two has been laid. Strange slippers by the fire. Strange boots in the hallway. Put my cap on my head. I turn and walk away.
although nothing to suggest the man is married to the woman who fancies the attentions of another, i thought id guess it anyway! haha

Strange boots in the hallway. Put my cap on my head. I turn and walk away. although nothing to suggest the man is married to the woman who fancies the attentions of another, i thought id guess it anyway! haha Pibroch is an interesting song, one which we are discussing now in the 'Look into the Song' sub-board of our Analyze This department. (This is a new feature on our board where we will be spotlighting a different Tull song each week.) It is definitely a song about unrequited love, but there is insufficient evidence in the song to conclude that the woodsman is married to, or even has a relationship with, the lady in the house who is obviously involved with another man. I don't think it's clear that she even knows of his existence. I'm not sure what Jan says on Cup of Wonder, but I think that the man in the song is an unsophisticated, uneducated woodcutter who has fallen in love with a woman from another class of society whom he has admired from afar, and so he goes to her house and peeps in out of curiousity, but is disappointed and even heartbroken by what he sees. So, as much as I like the song, Pibroch is not the answer I was looking for in this Lyric Quiz, but definitely a good try! Jeff

Who is unaware that he is a cuckold? Has everyone given up on this one? You really shouldn't have to think too hard to get the answer. Jeff

Dan, are you going to take a crack at this last one? Clue's already been provided and we've got to finish this set of five before moving on to the next batch.

No I'm afraid that's not it. The quiz asks for "who is unaware that he has been cuckolded", so that would have to be a guy whose wife is unfaithful. A major, but subtle, clue has already been provided elsewhere in this thread. Anyone? Jeff

I'll take another stab at it....The master of the house who is far away in TaaB? No, that's not it either, Quizz. But here is another hint: The couple in question are newlyweds. Jeff

An excellent guess, very close, but not quite because there is no indication that the cheating woman in that song was his wife. I try to make these quizzes as accurate as possible, so in the song I am thinking of, it is very clear that the man's wife is his new bride. Jeff P.S. I fear I may have just given it away, but we've got to get past this one to go on to Lyric Quizzes #11-15!

No, sorry Dan, it's not Moths either because in the song I am thinking of, the couple are people. However, I believe that with some additional thinking, you will get this one soon!

Dan There you go, Dan, and now, finally we can proceed to the next batch of five, i.e., Lyric Quizzes #11-15, which will follow in the year Two Thousand and Tull. And I promise that they won't be so easy, like the first 10. Happy New Year, Danno! Jeff

You know, I was looking at this song about a week ago and thought about throwing it out there but I totally missed the "best man between white thighs line." But actually I'm truly happy for Dan. So much so that I'm going to award him 20 more karmas! There you go Dan, and don't let them go to your head!
