Who is seated, alone, with a tepid beverage? "Feeling alone -- the army's up the road salvation a la mode and a cup of tea." Aqualung! Or the old man: "The sunlight streaks through the curtain cracks, touches the old man where he sleeps. The nurse brings up a cup of tea --- two biscuits and the morning paper mystery." KH

Or the old man: "The sunlight streaks through the curtain cracks, touches the old man where he sleeps. The nurse brings up a cup of tea --- two biscuits and the morning paper mystery." KH These are excellent guesses, and I hadn't realized there were other lyrics that were so close, but they are not the answer I was looking for. Here's why: In Aqualung, although he is feeling alone, there is no indication that he is sitting at that particular point in time in the song, although earlier in the song he was indeed sitting on the park bench. But the question was who "is" seated alone, with a tepid beverage, and Aqualung has already gotten up and gone down to the bog....in fact by this time he is already on the road to the Salvation Army. There is also no indication in Aqualung as to the temperature of the beverage, although I would concede that the tea could have started off hot and then cooled off to the point that it was only lukewarm. But that's an assumption, it could also still have been hot. Plus, I don't think he had even gotten the tea yet, because both the salvation ala mode, and the cup of tea, were still "up the road" awaiting his arrival. In Chequered Flag there is no indication that he is sitting either. Yes, someone could fall asleep in the sitting position, but more likely he would have been lying down, but again that is speculation. Also, the nurse is just then bringing up the tea, so the old man was not really alone at that point in time, and also, since she was just bringing the tea, it was presumably still hot, not lukewarm. Please keep trying, those were very very good guesses. Jeff

Who is seated, alone, with a tepid beverage? Okay, this was one to really sink your teeth into, but still no answer yet? We've already got the answers to 2, 3 and 5, but we need to complete this one and #4, because you know I'm already cooking up Lyric Quizzes 6-10! Jeff

The guy in 'deadbeat to an old greaser'? Nice try...although not explicitly mentioned in the song, I could see how the deadbeat might have been sitting alone in a pub with a pint. But, there's nothing to suggest that the drink was warm. You may have overlooked my subtle little clue -- can't make them too obvious, you know? Jeff

"Sitting lonely with a warm beer the girl with dental braces wishes that she hadn't gone." Dan

But tell me, did you pick up on my little clue, i.e., about really being able to sink your teeth into this one? Even if you did, it wouldn't have been too easy find, because the line is buried in a song that's rarely discussed. So, good job once again! Jeff

Jeff No, the 'sink your teeth into' clue made me think about lions, tigers, crocodiles, Paradisal Steackhouses... These are a little too obscure to figure out without some help or clues. To even the playing field -I couldn't think of many off the top of my head without help from the lyric link of Cup Of Wonder. www.cupofwonder.com/contents.html#sitesearchHope that doesn't make your quizzes any harder.
