Danno, that was a lot of fun, hanging out and pounding beers with you, Dennis, Kathleen, Rob and then, appearing out of nowhere.....Rachelle, Rachelle. I was laughing my ass off there at the end. Jeff P.S. Thanks for everything too, the beers, the drive back, etc. Great to meet you....let's do it again next time around, maybe in my neck of the woods, and next time I'm buying. Absolutely great fun! I missed this post somehow and thought I somehow pissed you guys off that I wasn't mentioned with your review. I take Rob calling me a f@#*er at least four times as a term of endearment. Rachelle , hmm, sometimes I think I have a psycho magnet in my pocket that attracts these types as I find them everywhere. Then again it may just be the water in Scumectady. Hi, Danno, you also must have missed my other post (reply #6 of this thread) where I told Holly that you were hilarious, especially at the end of the night when I had to just step back and watch in awe, as you deftly toyed with Rachelle in her drunken stupor. She was like putty in your hands. But why on earth would you think you pissed us off in any way? We had such a great time getting plastered with you, Dennis and Kathleen. And Rob was loving you big time.....his "f*ckers" is like our "bastards," a term of endearment as you said. In fact, when I read him your post in which you referred to us as "the bastards," and when I reminded him of how you got Rachelle to roll up her pants and show us her naked knee, he was laughing his ass off! Jeff

Just got back from the Beacon show and after-party. Some differences for the better in the stage presentation and much more energy. Acoustics were not quite as good as Schenectady, but vocals were as good, if not better (except for Skating Away and Tea with Princess.) Unfortunately, no Child in My Garden and even worse, Just Trying to Be was dropped for.....I can't even bear to say it.....G, Gri, Grim, Griminelli's Lament. Introduced in the same way as he has done, with the same "bigger flute" joke, for the last nine years. Full review by tomorrow night. Jeff No, no...Griminelli's, ugh! I was hoping that his solo work didn't slip into the Tull set list.

Haloween coming ( my birthday BTW-52, this one) and I just got all the scare I need for one year: Grimelli's ferment in place of 'Just trying to Be'. Sounds like you easterners had lots of fun this your...I'll go to Modesto with 3 peoples from the other Tull board...none of whom I have met...should be fun with a capital F.

Sorry, I don't know how to make the picture smaller. Meeting Ian backstage at Proctor's ,Schenectady. In hindsight ,I think I would have rather had a sip of his beer.

That's one huge mother truckin picture. Anyway. how awesome. Totally jealous as I have no pic of my meeting with IA. I WOULD have, had rotten banana monkey boy been allowed upstairs with myself. But no, he only has a pic of me with Giddings. Who wouldn't let him come in the first place. As I remember correctly my leg was signed by a band member too, and TM had a pic of that...
Who is the girl with the interesting outfit?
I'm depressed now. Tried entering a contest to go to the Tull show Sunday. But I must be a CT resident. I am RIGHT on the CT state line. How Asstacular.

Here are some reviews from the TalkTull folks (some pretty harsh critics over there, harsher even than I tend to be, but I would say pretty accurate):
Review #1:
I just got back from the Keswick concert. It was very enjoyable, and I'm glad I went, but it was not the best Tull/Ian show I've seen.
Setlist with comments:
Dun Ringill: Spoken weather report intro by Ian. Florian and Ian on acoustic guitars, capo at second fret. This is one of my favorite Tull songs, and was glad to hear it extended a bit with an extra chorus.
March the Mad Scientist: Always glad to hear something new! capo at third fret. This is a good concert piece. Ian said it is from the Aqualung sessions, but I thought it was later. Could someone with the 20 years booklet handy look it up?
Just Trying to be: Backing vocals from John Ohara, which worked quite well. Another good concert piece. capo on second fret
Jack in the Green: Yes, we've heard it a lot in concert, but I'm always glad to hear it. capo at first fret. Ian's guitar work on this was not the best. More on that later
Jeffrey goes to Leicester Squaare
Skating Away: capo at first fret. David sang backing vocals, which was OK.
Serenade to a Cuckoo: Eh.
Tea With Princess: Meena's first appearance. This was much better in person than the video clips I've seen. Really looking forward to the studio version!
Meena's song "Driving Skies", with Ian playing Mandolin. I like the viola more than the violin, and this instrumental was really good.
Fat Man: Quite a bit slower than usual. John and Mark had a little bongo duel which was really good!
Rocks on the Road: capo at third fret. I'm glad to hear something from between 1980 and 2007! The instrumental outro as great as always.
Intermission (Broadford Bazaar played on PA)
Someday the Sun Won't Shine For You: Just Ian and Florian. Soudned the same as always.
A Change of Horses: Not as good Tea With Princess.
Mother Goose: capo at third fret. Extended instrumental jam in the middle similar to what we've heard before and which I love. Meena and John covering the recorder parts formerly played by Andy G and MArtin.
Florian's song "En Dentino" or something. Really impressive playing. Near the end the other band members were all sort of dancing behind Florian and clapping, but Ian was clapping something a bit more complex than the others, and I think the audience was split on who to follow....I found it distracting.
Bouree: Meena played some of the flute lines on viola which was a nice change. This was the first time, aside from a couple kicks, that Ian stood on one leg.
My God: New intro on piano from John. I never get tired of this song. The keyboards and drums gave it a lot of punch.
Aqualung: The Divinites/Roots to Branches era version with the very catchy Aquadiddley jam.
Locomotive Breath: The first two verses had Ian on acoustic guitar, then the flute solo, then the piano introduction followed by the last verse played in the conventional type arrrangement.
Mark Mondesir was really good on drums, and was smiling a lot, interacting with the others.
John played percussion a couple times, which I don't remember him doing before, but it was a nice addition. Plenty of accordion too, which is nice.
Florian is obviously a very good player, but once in a while gets into a little "look at how fast I can play" moment. Not surprisingly, I prefer Martin.
Again, I like the addition of the viola more than violin.
Ian seemed in a good mood, and his voice was really strong for most of My God, Aqualung, and Locomotive Breath...stronger than during the rest of the show.. It gave me the impression that he was saving his voice for those songs, because I was really surprised at the flashes of power at the end, My God especially.
This is the first time I've noticed that some of the songs were played quite a bit slower than usual. Fat Man, Mother Goose, and Skating Away stand out in that regard. I also caught several mistakes by Ian, which I almost never do. The playing for the first few lines of Jack in the Green was a little clunky...it seemed like some of the chord transitions were slow, slightly disrupting the flow of the song. I also noticed Ian putting his hands in his pockets several times, which struck me as unusual and rubbing his right hand on his pants when playing with just his left. I'm wondering if he hurt his hand or something.
Anyhow, I'd say not as good as the other Ian solo shows I've seen. Divinities, Rubbing Elbows, and the Orchestral concert were more clearly Ian concerts, while this seemed more like "Ian and Guests play Tull lite".
Still, I am glad I went, and it was nice to see something so different than what we've seen the last few years. Go if you can!
Review #2
Thanks for posting this, Alex. I was just too tired when I got home after fighting rain, wind and LOTS of trucks on the turnpike. My usual 50 minute drive turned into a 1-1/2 hour ordeal.Couple of notes I made:
Ian's voice was better than I've heard it in a couple of years but there were instances where he was singing flat - particularly in Skating Away - and he seemed to lose power partway through the second half.
I liked the music to both of the new pieces better than the lyrics. The lyrics to "Tea with the Princess" were somewhat, dare I say, insipid.
Florian's piece "Andantino" was interesting but somewhat unstructured (I think that's what my notes say - kind of hard to read what I scribbled in the dark without my reading glasses on!).
I noticed that Ian was having difficulties with his one ear piece - he kept poking at it and then removing it whenever he was playing flute. That was somewhat distracting.
It was a good show, but not a great show. I felt unsatisfied at the end and not just because Martin wasn't there. It was somewhat underwhelming.
However, it was great to see so many TT folks there - Bob & Sandy with their son and Bob's sister, Bev, Claire, Glenda, Felicia, Cary, Alex, and both John and Jim Jakubowski. If I missed anyone, please forgive me!
I may not be too old to rock 'n' roll, but I'm sure tired in the mornings afterwards!

Interesting reviews...I appreciate them since I couldn't be at any of the shows...
Speaking of, tonight I was looking through a recipe book trying to plan dinner for the week and talking to hubby, and as I'm reading, I say, "I can't believe I didn't get to see IA live this year." and he says (not being serious) "Fine, I'll take you to Europe or UK or Russia or whatever to see him" and I said, "Ok, how about Noodleburg?" He said, "Where's that, Holland or Germany?" I lsaid, "What are you talking about? That is a recipe!"
