Yes Grateful Dead Phish Fairport Convention/Richard Thompson Pink Floyd Bert Jansch (and Pentangle) Keith Jarrett Trio Led Zeppelin Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Beatles
Special mention Neil Young, Widespread Panic, King Crimson, Peter Gabrial Genesis, Dire Straits and a ton of other bands...

Wow that's an impossible question, but let's give it a go. I'm picking on the basis on who I listen to the most at the moment.
Jethro Tull Levellers The beatles AC/DC Fairport Convention Stone Roses The Treat Bellowhead Rolling stones C. W. Stoneking
That was really hard.

Hmm, I don't think I could pick out my favorite 5 of all time, but it would come out something along the lines of this:
Black Sabbath Steeleye Span Fairport Convention (most favorably to Swarbrick's era) Pink Floyd The Incredible String Band Santana John Renbourn (solo) Led Zeppelin The Guess Who Deep Purple
Of course, excluding Jethro Tull
I also enjoy some metal/doom bands like
Electric Wizard Burzum The Melvins
and a lot of English folk music like Anne Briggs Dave Swarbrick Martin Carthy The Watersons Bert Jansch Davy Graham
And I love all the old 60's and 70's hard rock bands, and bands that preceded Stoner rock like
Leafhound Blue Cheer Grand Funk Railroad Creedence Clearwater Revival Early Sabbath Free
Progressive Rock bands like Emerson Lake & Palmer, Yes, Van Der Graaf Generator, Pink Floyd, and King Crimson

My top three have been Tull, Zeppelin and Floyd since about 1972 The rest of the list fluctuates but currently: Alter Bridge Porcupine Tree Dream Theater Evanescence Van Der Graaf Generator Nickelback AC/DC My favourite guilty pleasure would be Sparks, 'Woofer...' in particular gets an airing reasonably regularly.

Maybe I am altering the category a bit to include band and artists (but these artists were not on stage alone, they had full bands playing with them, so there you go):
1. Jethro Tull 2. Emerson Lake & Palmer 3. Pink Floyd 4. Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler 5. Elton John 6. Bob Dylan 7. Billy Joel 8. The Doors 9. Heart 10. Led Zeppelin
Honorable Mention: Beatles and Rolling Stones, for sheer iconoclastic and volume of catalog

Wow, I would have thought to see Kansas mentioned here more. I think they were super up through "Point of Know Return." I guess American prog. just gets no respect. I'd also have to put the Dregs and Zappa in my list somewhere (in my top 20 anyway.)

I'd also have to put the Dregs and Zappa in my list somewhere (in my top 20 anyway.) Steve Walsh with Kansas in the late '70's was a master showman , always moving with passionate vocals, that rivaled Ian's stage show. Too bad he seems to be such a touchhole and cocaine robbed him of some prime years. He apparently looks 'blitzed' in this video:

It reminds me of Iggy Pop towards the end which I sort of admire. There were times during the early seventies when Ian would get almost as freaky during his performances. He would walk off stage behind the amps and look like he snorted something. I think it was part of his stage persona and it didn't really change the way he acted. During War Child, he masturbated his flute over the audience while I was standing within a few feet of the stage. I felt a little uncomfortable for a few moments, then I realized it was nothing coming out of the flute. Whew!
