Opens 12/6/10 ........or if you're on the other side of the Atlantic 6/12/10. Tull obviously has it's leading lights, Ian, Martin and then perm any member from a long list of excellent studio and live musicians. But, there have also been many behind the scenes, names who have contributed greatly to the musical legacy of Ian and Tull. Like picking your favourite album or band member, everyone could pick someone different, but there is strong opinion amongst many fans that no one has done more to keep the Tull 'spirit' going in the last 20 odd years than Dave Rees and his associates at A New Day . Dave set up AND, a fanzine, at a time when fanzine's were probably only just a little more fashionable than......old 'dinosaur' bands! Dave, worked hard through AND to celebrate a band that had in some respects had lost touch with the media, or more accurately vice versa. His work on promoting the band through AND paid off and AND thrived in the Tull community through mentions by the band itself and being listed on offical releases. Everyone recognising the high quality of the magazine and Dave's [and Martin Webb's] work. Would we have had the 20 years box set if it wasn't for Dave and Martin? If it was just left to Chrysalis at the time, a number of us would very much doubt it. Dave took AND a few steps further and launched it as a record label, giving a break to a few names and providing us Tull fans with a few treats along the way. We have great admiration for all Dave has done, and only hope that this board can mirror his and AND's standing in the Tull community over time. So, take the opportunity to put your questions to Dave over the next couple of weeks, we'll get them over to him and post the answers here on the board for all to read. Pat [Quizz] added that he has strong political principles as well, as some of the early AND's demonstrated but the only downside for him is that Dave is a 'Hammer's' fan! [Although he adds it could be worse, he could be a 'Gooner' ]

Thanks Pat, for bringing another interesting Tull personality to our board for a Q&A session. And right you are, Dave played a very important role in bringing Tull much closer to their core fans. Whether it was news about future albums and tours, or interviews with current and past members, Dave brought us Tull, when no when else would. Many of us owe Dave a huge debt of gratitude for everything he's done. Cheers, Dave's website: www.anewdayrecords.co.uk/

Hi Dave, 1. Can you tell us about any uncomfortable situations during an interview you have conducted? 2. Do you or have you ever played an instrument?
Thanks, Dave - Maryland, USA

Hi Dave,
First off, thanks for sticking your neck out and bringing Tull to their core fans with AND. Was this something you contemplated for some time, or something that just clicked and you ran with?
Crest of Knave was the first of a few Tull albums to acknowledge AND. Is it fair to say that album changed things considerably for you? Can you tell you us what kind of response you got after the release of that album?
Lastly, are there any unreleased Tull songs that you have heard, that you feel are worthy of a studio release?
Thanks again, Paul from New Jersey

Dave, you recently wrote,
"A few years ago Ian Anderson handed me a bunch of tapes to listen to, for possible inclusion in a second Tull box set. Imagine how I felt when one of them turned out to be the legendary lost Chateau tapes! He refused to release it all, but we got 90% of it out there at last. Superb stuff too!"
I have to agree, superb stuff indeed.
My first question, did Ian know the tapes included the Chateau album and if not what was his reaction when he realised?
If he refused to release all of it, did you have a battle to get any of it released and what was the quality of what was left unreleased?
To me there's always been a marked difference in feel and style to the first three tracks which were released on the 20 years box set [Scenario/Auditon/No rehersal], and then those songs which followed on Nightcap, do you agree and do you know of any reason for it?
Finally, if it hasn't already happened, who would be your ideal preference to replace Grant at Upton Park?

On the release of the 100th edition of A New Day, I thought it opportune to bump this Q&A with Dave back up the board, please feel free to add your questions.
When we have completed Dave's and James Duncan's Q&A's we will undoubtedly move swiftly onto Mr Anderson's upcoming Q&A with board members.

Dave, I don't think I imagined this and forgive me if I am wrong but I'm sure I read in your book that Maartin Allcock was fired from Tull via a letter from Ian's office.
Yet when I asked Maartin about this he denied it. If I did read it in your book did you get the wrong information or is Maartin not letting on?

well Dave I don't know how to phrase this question.....
As you know I mailed approx $150 with my credit card In November for back issues of AND a Martin Barre CD and a current AND subscription. It is Now April 15 and I still have received NOTHING!!!
On many occasion I have contacted you on Face book and Dec 7 I was told you were mailing it out that weekend....nothing >>>I waited 2 weeks and contacted you again and got more excuses and promises that it would be mailed.
I waited and waited and made many attempts and contacts on Face book and again you told you would take care of it a NOTHING!!!!!!
I tried contacting a person who is well known on here and he talked to someone who knows you and you said you would take care of it!!! I again was in contact with On Monday the 4th and you said that you had been all sorts of excuses as to why I had not recieved my merchandise, yet I see you on Face book 5 times a week!!!So the excuse you gave to me sounds like BS to me. Also I Still have not received what claimed you mailed out!!!
Dave You have done a lot for Tull fans and the community and are to commended for that, I truly mean that. Your attitude now absolutely SUCKS!!! you have been nothing but a liar to me!!! I have never been screwed by a Tull collector in 37 years of collecting until now. I did not think it come from someone like you. Keep the F>>>ING MONEY...it means more to you the me..
I would warn anyone of Mr Rees...... and yes dave, I have gotten packages from all around without any of them getting lost or not arriving here....
UPDATE>>>APRIL 18>> Dave contacted me through facebook.....and I to his credit I DID recieve a package on Monday 18 on 2 cd's, he also told the back issues and others would be on the way..... so if that is the case... ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL.. Thank You Dave

Hello from new member here and long time Tull fan
Wish I could start on a more positive note, but as soon as I saw this Q&A with Dave Rees I just had to chime in.
But if you really want a question, here it is: do you see yourself as having good business ethics ?
Having been a long time AND subscriber I moved adress a few years ago and passed this info on to Rees who apparently did nothing, meaning that I did not receive the last remaining AND issues of my subscribtion. Decided last year (yes, February 2010) to buy some back issues from him and absolutely NOTHING happened. Except that my credit card got billed and Rees took the money.
He gives no response to emails and the idea that you apparently need to know someone who knows him before anything happens just says all about him. Yes I like his mag, which is why I ordered it, but I´ll keep my credit card far away from him in the future.
Hope my next post can be more positive, but in that case it will probably have to have another subject matter than Dave R.

So Dave, what I'm wondering is how did you land such a pretty blond girlfriend? You sly old dog, you. Seriously, how did you meet her, and is she a Tull fan? Jeff, from New York

Let's everyone try to get some questions in for Dave Rees, the co-founder/publisher of the great A New Day fanzine! We've had this thread open for awhile, and we've got about seven questions so far, but we need more. I'd like to see 15 or so, which is a decent number, and then we can send them off to him. Jeff

I have a question for David Rees:
Hi Dave. I've been a subscriber since 1987, missing only a few issues here and there. You've done a great deal for Tull fans and it is appreciated. My question is: how have your feelings toward the music and the people in the band been affected by the number of interviews and behind-the-scenes encounters you have had with them? I'm not looking for gossip, just an overall impression of how your perspective may or may not have changed. Thanks!
David from Massachusetts
