Well, here you go.....
Be patient with Part 1 as the copy we were sent had some tape distortion on a significant part of it.
Stick with it, as it does get better.
All of it is without vocals.
Part three is very much 'Mountain Men', and you can hear other 'snippets' in there if you listen to it all. It's been broken down into 5 seperate pieces for ease of uploading and to get it to you as quickly as possible. There is a complete version and we will load that in due course...
In the meantime, enjoy, and remember,
"Be grateful my son for what you get"..... ;D
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
With huge thanks to our anonymous benefactor, who has also made a quantity of other gems available for your general listening pleasure....

This is great. In the Martin Barre Q & A we just did he said that the funnest albums to record were particularly Under Wraps and Crest of a Knave. Great hearing some of these awesome instrumental demos. I looove part three of budapest.

Amazing stuff! Thanks!
The piece that is labelled Part 5 here made it to the ending of one of the live shows that I can't find right now, while Ian was distributing the balloons.

Just a guess, but Quizz Kid = Ian Anderson.

Fecking awesome Quizz!!!
Any chance we can get an audio copy of the source? I'm happy to help cleaning up some of this stuff if you need another pair of hands.
Actually, thinking aloud, maybe we could have a torrent sharing facility on these boards for bootlegs and goodies like this?

Ok, I'm on part 3 so far. This doesn't sound like a demo to me. This is a live rehearsal recording, you can hear the sound of the room they are playing in.
My guess is someone (DP cough cough) has a cassette recorder in the room.

An interesting aspect to this is (I presume ) Doane on the drums. Since we know the official release is a drum machine. It's cool to hear this version with human drums. I do recall hearing that he did play it in rehearsals but his drums were not used.

Wow, I've heard many years ago about a rumoured 20-something minute long Budapest, but after searching for it for quite some time, I almost discarded that as an unfounded rumour.
Fortunately, it wasn't such, and now I've heard it. Thanks a lot for posting it!

Some hard fan told me, years ago, that Budapest really lasted about 20 minutes. I didn´t quite believe it until this thread.
Going to Steel Monkey, IMO this version proves that the song needs no vocals. Sounds damn cool, like the intro of some 80´s cartoons. Don´t get me wrong, there were really good songs in a lot of US and Japanese cartoons, like "Thundercats" and "Robotech" .

Welcome to The Jethro Tull Board, Jordevi, where you will find lots of interesting and unusual things about Tull, and other subjects as well. We are happy you joined our growing Tull community here! I never heard the extended Budapest either, until Pat posted it here today, and I still have to set aside a block of time to listen to that and the other rare and amazing videos that Pat produced for youtube and posted on the board these last few days. Anyway, when you've got some free time, take a spin around the place, jump in whenever and wherever you like, and we'll talk again soon! Jeff

Demo 5 of Budapest contains quite a bit of Dogs in the Midwinter. Thanks for these. Really enjoying them.

Thanks for posting. This is very cool. These are definitely multitracked demos from Ian's studio. That's an early working of budapest and it's great! Would love to see them do this stuff now live with just flute.

Very interesting that two other COAK tracks appear in the long version. Any chance to get some demos with his master's voice? PS Yes I am happy & grateful with what we got. Just asking.

The reason I think they are rehearsal recordings and not part of a multitrack is in these recordings you can clearly hear the room, the levels are not right and the instruments are recorded at a distance as opposed to close mic studio recording. The drums are a dead give away.
