Because I've seen more recent Jethro Tull videos and instead of Martin it's some other young man playing the guitar, will Martin ever play with Ian again?

I think those aren't Jethro Tull vids, they're Ian Anderson solo vids. Martin Barre is still part of Tull.

Florian rocks. I enjoyed him during my solo Ian show in 2009.

Florian rocks. I enjoyed him during my solo Ian show in 2009. I like Florian's acoustic playing with Ian's solo band when they are doing the acoustic numbers. But what I don't like is where he plays Martin's leads on electric guitar during the heavier Tull numbers. He can't replicate Martin's sound, or the feeling and emotion which Martin pours into every note, and so it can never be as good. Jeff

Amen Jeff. There are lots of great guitar players out there. There is only one Martin Barre and no one I've heard plays with as much passion and emotion - or with with such a beautiful tone!! Martin is truly inimitable. Thank You.

I've not seen Florian playing so I can't comment but having seen Tull recently I was reminded just how fecking fantastic Martin is. I don't really see why Ian would want anyone else in the roll.
So the question is, is this an arrangement that allows Ian to keep playing and Martin to take a break? If so I've no problem with that as long as if its listed as a Jethro Tull gig Martin is there.

A positive spin on all things Tull regardless of how I really feel.

I think there is reason to believe that Martin is the one who has cooled toward his involvement with Tull. Ian often alludes to how difficult it is to reach Martin about upcoming tours. Plus, several years ago, Paul and I saw Martin's solo show in NYC -- although it really could have been called The Willy Porter show. Anyway, Martin mentioned the name Jethro Tull only once all night, and when doing so, it was definitely with a bit of a mocking tone. Although I am not sure about this part, I think it was also accompanied by a slight rolling of the eyes. Paul attended the show separately from me, as I didn't really know him (apart from online) at that time. Not too long ago, I mentioned the incident in a post, and Paul replied that he had independently noticed the same thing. So I wasn't imagining it. Jeff

I'd like to think things are intentionally different with Anderson's solo shows as opposed to Jethro Tull: different arrangements, different instrumentation and sound, different solos. He does the Tull material, but it's not Faux Tull, right?

Ian mentioned that he asked Martin to do the orchestral shows years ago, but Martin declined. And yes, that night at BB Kings Martin undoubtedly mentioned "Jethro Tull" with what I can only refer to as disdain. It apparently wasn't a good time for him.

Don't tell me there is a huge cover up from the Tull camp. If Martin isn't at Red Rocks for AQUALUNG I will have to be tear gassed!

By way of explanation, I realized yesterday that my exposure to FlorIAN was at an Ian ACOUSTIC Tull show. Yes, I exposed myself to FlorIAN or visa versa.

I think only Ian Anderson has been in Tull longer than Martin Barre. He and Anderson are like Tull's core as it were.

It's hard to imagine Tull without Martin. Do we really have to go through with this?
