I posted in the other thread that pre-sale tickets went on sale today. I got two at $103 each, plus the usual TM charges. It's a smaller venue and a great theater for concerts, and I didn't really think those prices were too bad except for the TM fees.

Unofficial but perhaps another USA Date in Utah on Oct.22. Dan Thanks to Facebook friend Chris Cheney, I have this news to report: Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson will perform at Abravanel Hall on Monday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. He will perform 1972's "Thick As a Brick" and 2012's "Thick as a Brick 2." The concert is a United Concerts show. United Concerts presents Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson Plays Thick As A Brick 1 & 2 Monday, October 22nd, 2012 at 8pm, Doors at 7pm Abravanel Hall Salt Lake City, Utah On sale: 3/9/2012 at 10am. Ian Anderson Announces the Thick As A Brick Tours for 2012. Ian Anderson performs Thick As A Brick in its entirety for the first time since 1972, going out for a world tour commencing in the UK in Mid-April. Then, it's on to European countries in the late SprThick as a Brick Live Tour 2012ing and Summer before landing in the USA for two tours spanning September, October and early November. This tour will feature a more theatrical production with video, additional musicians and a troupe of dancing elephants. (Just kidding about the dancing elephants: they don't dance.,...) In 1972, Ian wrote the music (and the lyrics which were credited at the time to the fictitious character, 8 year-old Gerald Bostock, whose parents lied about his age) and recorded with Jethro Tull, Thick As A Brick. The record became a number one Billboard album and enjoyed huge commercial success in most countries of the world. The album featured only one song, lasting nearly 45 minutes. To accommodate the album on LP vinyl and cassette, the seamless track was split on both sides of the record. It reached number one on the US Billboard Pop Albums chart. Tull then dutifully took the somewhat theatrical show on the road in the Great Britain, USA, and other world markets. Since 1972, the album has never been performed in its entirety although a few minutes of the material have been a regular repertoire staple in both Tull and IA solo shows over the years. Now, scheduled for performance again in 2012, Ian will take the original album to a theatre near you. It will be performed in its entirety in a theatrical setting with band, and additional guests. Run time: TBA Recommended for ages 8 and up. No babes in arms. All patrons must have a ticket regardless of age. Ticket Policy All ticket purchases are final, there are no exchanges or refunds. There is a limit of eight (8) tickets per person on an internet transaction. Seats will be grouped together in the number you request. Recommended age for all performances is 8 years or older and no babes in arms unless otherwise specified. See specific event description for details. All patrons must have a ticket. Well, the show is not coming to my area (yet), so I don't really have a decision to make(yet). I'm seeing Springsteen on April 1st and that may be my only concert of the year. (Actually I went to see the Carolina Chocolate Drops in February at a free event. Make it two concerts.)
I noticed the Tull homepage states and I quote "The 2012 tours feature the performance of Thick As A Brick One AND Two in most of the concerts." The key word being "most". Hmmmm.

In advance of the 2 Scottish dates Ian will be on Radio Scotland on April 5th 14.05 and repeated on April 8th at 06.03 (!) both UK time. Usual 7 day listen again function available and this looks like a good one with Ian on for the whole programme -25 minutes I think. Link is: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01f52g8and here is the blurb. "Ian Anderson's widely recognised as the man who introduced the flute to rock music. Born in Dunfermline in 1947 he attended primary school in Edinburgh before his family moved south to Blackpool. Following a Grammar school education Ian went to Art College before embarking on a career as a musician. Jethro Tull was formed in 1968 and first performed at London's famous Marquee Club. The band have gone on to perform at over 3000 concerts in over 40 countries. Along with the flute Ian plays whistles, acoustic guitars and mandolin. In recent years Ian has toured more and more under his own name and has recorded four solo albums. He's about to embark on a 19 date tour to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Jethro Tull album 'Thick as a Brick'. His Scottish dates are in Perth on 14th April and Glasgow on 15th April. Tom Morton talks to Ian about his love of the flute, his passion for performing and his newly recorded album Thick as a Brick 2 and they listen to some songs from the Tull repertoire." icyL

Just seen that a concert in Budapest has been announced on the 26th of August! I'm very excited about this, since it's only a 300km drive. And what a birthday present would that be (my birthday is on the 27th) ;D

Anyone got any insider and non-sarcastic knowledge as to why Canada is getting shunned? LOL I have a theory, but it has nothing to do with any insider knowledge. On Ian's first solo tour in 1995, he only filled the 2600(ish) seat Massey Hall in Toronto to half of its capacity. He's been back to Toronto under the Tull banner, but never again as a "solo" artist. It seems logical that promoters take into account ticket sales from prior tours, but I still thought the "Thick as a Brick" angle would equal at least a Toronto date. I have a friend who lives there who won't get to see the show without traveling. Anyway, just a theory. David

Just wondering if anybody on the board is going to tonights show in Perth. looking forward to any observations / reviews of the UK leg of the tour. I will try and write something after Sheffield on Thursday.
I wonder how much of TAAB 1 will include spoken word sections .....I think Ian tested this out when he did the spoken poet and the painter part during his recent solo shows
If the do you believe in the day section is attempted then I think that this will be a spoken delivery.
Wondering how much vocal imput is Ryan O ' Donnell going to have in the performance of TAAB 1

Tull has always done fine here.... and if TAAB doesn't bring a 'Tull' fanbase... especially with this much promoting... nothing will. That being said... even though I'm in Toronto... I would have thought Montreal would get a nod. Bigger 'prog' following there than in most places in North America. Definitely bigger than in the 'south'. Its just odd... I saw the Montreal show in 2007 and it was PACKED in one of the nicest venues in town.. its just strange...

Wondering how much vocal imput is Ryan O ' Donnell going to have in the performance of TAAB 1 I think (and hope, at least in the case of the 'Do you believe in the day?' section) Ryan O'Donnell will sing through most of Side 2, not only because of the high notes, but also because Ian will be busy doing something else (playing a flute or guitar part, who knows, he might surprise us with playing the violin or bits of trumpet heard on Side 1, since he is credited to have played it on the original record ;D ;D ).
