Donovan, Laura Nyro, Alice Cooper, R.E.M., Patti Smith, Percy Sledge, Brenda Lee, Billie Holiday and the freakin' Moonglows are either in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame or will inducted shortly. I don't understand. This group of artists are either very mediocre or they aren't even rock n' rollers and yet, Tull has 11 gold albums and 5 platinum albums and I distinctly remember the 70's when Tull was shoulder-to-shoulder with Zeppelin with regard to filling up large arenas. TULL RANKS!!!!!! THEY DESERVE TO BE IN THE HALL!!!!! WHERE'S THE RESPECT???

I wrote an article for my blog in 2010 about the lunacy of the Hall... darkelffile.blogspot.com/2010/08/rock-and-roll-hall-of-shame-or-crock.htmlAnd my little test still sadly holds almost true (only Alice Cooper has since been inducted): Question #1: What do these six recording artists/bands have in common: ABBA The Bee Gees Grandmaster Flash The Jackson Five Madonna Run-DMCAnswer: They have all been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Question #2: What do these six recording artists/bands have in common: Alice Cooper King Crimson Jethro Tull The Moody Blues Rush YesAnswer: They have not been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Question #3: Which set of six artists/bands would you consider as great (or even good) rock bands/artists: Set #1 -- ABBA, The Bee Gees, Grandmaster Flash, The Jackson Five, Madonna, Run-DMCSet #2 -- Alice Cooper, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, Rush, YesIf you chose set #1 as a list of great rock artists, congratulations! you are qualified to be one of the muddled revisionists who vote for inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, located in Cleveland, Ohio (the nonexistent and wholly mythical capital of rock-and-roll). As a parting gift for playing our trivia game, here is your Rock-and-Roll gift bag, which contains a DVD of the movie Mamma Mia, a CD of the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever, an alarm clock autographed by Flavor Flav, a patch of Madonna's pubic hair and Michael Jackson's spare nose. Don't get me started.

No, King Crimson is not in the Hall. How can the people who vote for the entrants, keep their jobs. Hell, I'd fire 'em All. Or worse, Cornick 'em, that'll take care of everything. Bad mouth, on a prayer day, hope no one's listening.

It is a BULLSHIT organization especially with any association to Rolling Shit magazine

Thanks Derek!
What really gets me angry is this entire revisionist attitude that every damn thing is now "rock and roll". WTF? If you looked at the comments for that article (and the heated arguments between myself and these musical ninnyhammers), you can see there are plenty of idiots out there who completely disagreed with me and think that disco, rap, soul and R&B have all somehow magically transmogrified into one giant barrel of shit known as "rock".
Of course, they could never directly explain why there are separate blues, jazz, country, soul and R&B Halls of Fame. Anyone with any grasp of music knowns these Halls are there to recognize the extraordinary artists IN EACH SEPARATE GENRE for Christ's sake! Ozzy is not in the Country Hall, Alice is not in the Jazz Hall and Ian is not in the Soul Hall. They don't belong there.
People are fucking sheep. Bah!

I think we need to stop getting so upset about who is or is not in the hall--we're giving it too much credit. It calls itself the hall of fame and then everyone acts like it's official or something...
You know what, I'll make my own rock hall of fame (in a cardboard box in my backyard) and Tull will be in it, along with everyone else you guys like... It means the same thing, really....
We're acting likethe rock hall of fame is bigger than Tull... It's just a museum with a panel of critics who think their opinion matters... Apparently it does!
Not to be on a high horse though, I've ranted about the rnr hall before, which is why I used the term "we".

To be eligible for induction as an artist (as a performer, composer, or musician) into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the artist must have released a record, in the generally accepted sense of that phrase, at least 25 years prior to the year of induction; and have demonstrated unquestionable musical excellence.
We shall consider factors such as an artist's musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique, but musical excellence shall be the essential qualification of induction.
There's no way in hell Tull should not be in.

Based on these qualifications alone, at least a third of those elected do not deserve induction. My great hope is that the RRHoF goes bankrupt, or a competing organization with clout claims bullshit and actually adheres to the standards set.

I hope you guys have considered my input here, we can argue all we want about why Tull should be inducted, but we are only giving merit to institution that makes up non-existant standards for what a "real" rock band entails. The opposite of what rock music is in my opinion. We are arguing that Tull needs to be recognized by a group of people we don't know, and because they don't recognize them we are upset and feel that we need to prove them why Tull deserves their approval. It doesn't make sense.
We're upset because a certain panel of "qualified" critics won't give Tull the respect that WE feel they deserve?
Does anybody understand my point of view here? Maybe some of us just don't want to give up the chance to complain about those who disagree with us...

The RnR Hall of Fame is a gimmick to bring tourists to Cleveland, Ohio. Of course the judges are just picking groups based on their limited knowledge of Rock n Roll. Tull is too difficult for them to understand so they skip over them every year.
Metallica was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. Case Closed.

Kai,
I can understand that view and in a lot of respects I am with it. I think my idignation centres on the annual 'How on earth can so and so be judged rock and roill enough and Tull not?'.
If they were to be inducted I'd have greater repsect for Ian if he sent them a nota a la Groucho Marx's resignation from being inducted into the Friar's Club........"PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT PEOPLE LIKE ME AS A MEMBER".
I gave up on expecting Tull to be inducted yonks ago and quite frankly I couldn't give a toss right now if they were inducted or not, got a grammy or merely an egg-cup with a picture of Noddy on it.
Got my albums and stuff and some good Tull mates and that's the place where I want my Tull.

They can call themselves whatever they like, but they obviously are not about Rock & Roll. I would guess that 50% of their inductees have never received air-time on a rock radio station. Someone should start a R&R HOF for rock & roll bands. Go figure.

However the Grasshopper did have the sense to Judge properly for Crest of a Knave, as metal album of the year.
