Barre has been wasted for the last 13 years. Since Dot com Tull have been pedestrian. Anderson wasnt interested in making a new Tull album. So now he makes a solo album to sound as close to a Tull album as he possibly can. Although in all honesty its pretty poor,(no Farm on the Freeway or Minstrel quality here).
Florian is a poor imitation of Barre. His playing is harsh, toneless and lacks any feel. His guitar sounds 'Grainy' Yes hes only 30 years old or so but go and listen to Barres playing on SFTW at a comparable age and the difference is massive.
When you think of all the great musicians Anderson has FIRED Cornick,Barlow,Evans,Palmer,Giddings,Allcock,Noyce etc it really sums it up the current MESS we call Tull.
I dont know why Barre has stuck around for so long. Ive read on his website the band he would most like to join is Fairport for there oneness, unity, fairness etc Sums Tull up as a dictatorship.
Remember when Giddings was sacked he posted Tull pics with Captain Mannerings (Dads Army) head imposed on Anderson HA!! HA!! HA!!
I think Florian is an excellent guitarist, but I like him more as an acoustic player.
I definitely agree with your comment about how Florian's electric guitar tone seems harsh in more than one place on this album. I noticed that harshness right off the bat and on repeated listenings. Also adding to the periodic harsh sound is the cold and mechanical drumming in several places. I don't find this on the entire album, only on several songs. I think the electric guitar playing and drumming on this album sometimes lack the warmth and smooth tone with which those original instruments were played on the original Brick. That's just my opinion, of course.
I still think this is a very good album, most of the songs are excellent, the vocals are pretty good (maybe a bit too much with the megaphone, though). I love the way the lyrics and concept are fully developed and executed, and also the way Ian has gone the full nine yards in trying to recreate the feel of the original album, which I think will be especially evident in the stage show.
Yes agreed FO is a very good acoustic player. Personally dont think his elec Guitar has the 'Feel' for what Tull is about. Watched him play last year on solo tour and didnt enjoy his Elec G work im afraid. Too OTT for me. Its the 1st time ive found myself 'bored'watching IA/Tull over the last 40 years or so. Something was very missing to me.
The drums are mechanical in parts.
It is a good IA solo album, some real good lyrics ,voice is OK. But a poor Tull album,i dont think it bears any resemblance to the origonal which is a masterpiece. I dont think this lineup has much 'depth' to it visually or sonically

lclark354: Hello everyone. I recently finished a room addition, and can finally set up surround sound. I've purchased all the Tull sets, except, of course,TAAB. Is there a site where one can purchase & download the 5.1 files? Or, any word on a re-issue?
