Kelpie, our newest member on this board (Lisa or 'Lee' as her many Tull friends call her) has this un-freakin-believeable denim Tull jacket that she created over the course of many years and probably about a zillion Tull shows! She was wearing it seventeen years ago (!) when she came to a Tull party I had at my apartment a block away from the Beacon Theater, before and/or after one of the Little Light Music shows.
I thought it would be fun to let Lee describe what she has on her Tull jacket, tell us how she was able to acquire those things and keep adding stuff over the years, and if we're lucky, post a photo or two! I suspect there are some interesting stories associated with that jacket.....not to mention a boatload of other stories that Lee has to tell!
So, without further ado....drum roll.....we await Lisa's story!

There are actually two of these jackets in existance...almost identical. One is hanging in my closet, and the other one is....I have no idea. The story behind it is that I really wanted something neat to wear to concerts other than the standard t-shirts. I bought a denim jacket and being somewhat artistic, I started painting parts of album covers all over it. Sleeves, front, and the back was a discography of all the albums until that time. One by one I got the band members to sign it, and it was my pride and joy-second only to my 1968 Newport Jazz Festival ticket signed by Ian. On a trip to England to see Tull we stayed in a hotel which was chosen for us as part of a travel package. After a concert we hung out with some friends and arrived back at the hotel around 2am to find our door bolted from the inside and a thief going through our room. When the manager unbolted the door we found the window open and our room had been robbed. My friend lost some jewelry and had her suitcase locks broken. The only thing they took of mine was the jacket, which also had a walkman and my drivers license in it. I never saw the jacket again, but I did receive my license in the mail about a month later from an American businessman who found it on the floor of the Tube. After lamenting the loss of my jacket I realized it was not that big of a deal..I simply went out and bought another one and did it over again- only better. I once again got all the bands' signatures on it, this time including Glenn and John. Think it has 7 sigs on it. I'm waiting on some hardware that will allow me to scan my negatives right to my external harddrive, so I'll post a pic when I can. Lee

Looking forward to seeing it Lee. For some reason I'm thinking I already have. Maybe at the Vermont Convention?

I didn't realize that you had two of them and that one was stolen. The one you wore to my little Tull party in 1992 had the discography that you painted, and all the autographs, but I also seem to remember a lot of embroidered Tull patches, pins and buttons. Was that the first one or the second? It sucks that the first one was stolen, but I love that you did a second one all over again, and made it even better! Would love to see the pictures sometime, when you are able. Jeff

I have just heard from Lee, and she's told me that she wishes to sell her amazing -- and trust me, it really is amazing -- handmade denim Tull jacket. Although she's one of the most ardent Tull fans on the planet, she's fallen out of the Tull loop recently, probably because of the lack of any new Tull album since Dot Com, nearly 12 years ago. Although the solo shows have been great, Tull are not really the same as they used to be, during the years when they were regularly releasing albums and doing full-scale album tours.
In any event, I've asked Lee to update this thread with some photographs of the jacket, the price, etc. Her jacket is quite unique, homemade with loads of colorful Tull patches, pins, designs, etc., signed by seven members of Jethro Tull, it's a true collector's item and really one in a million!

I sometimes am inclined to agree, then again not. It seems to me that the best Tull was the 70's. Downtown uptown, no sweat, the rush hour travel is the best way yet.

Here, in 1991, Martin signs Lisa's first Tull jacket, which she painstakingly made over the course of several years. The jacket was subsequently stolen from a London hotel room, while she was on one of her several Tull expeditions in the U.K. As Lisa (a/k/a "Kelpie" on TJTB) explained earlier in this thread she was initially crushed....... .......so she simply determined to make a new Tull jacket, and make it even better and more colorful than the first one which was stolen, and with even more signatures from bandmembers. Here, Andy is signing Lee's new and improved jacket a few years later. Lee, as she is affectionately known by her friends, still loves Tull but no longer follows them around -- these days she is an avid NASCAR fan -- has told me that she would like to sell her unique, custom-made Tull jacket, which is autographed by every member of the 1990's line-up of Tull, plus Glenn and, somehow, John Evan. (That must have been at the second Hoftsra University Tull convention). I am awaiting further details from Lee about that, which I will post here when I receive it, if anyone is interested. Jeff
