Here's a story I thought I share with all my Tull friends. The year was 1976, August of the summer between my junior and senior year at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ. I was traveling cross country with my high school chum Pete. During high school and a good portion of our college life, Pete shared my love of Jethro Tull. Pete's interest had diminished a bit, like me he was probably disappointed with the TOTRNRTYTD LP. One difference was, I was still interested in the band. A week or so before our trip, I witnessed a disappointing Shea Stadium show and decided to take a break from Tull/large venue shows for a while. At that point in time I had six Tull shows under my belt and never had a really great seat. Criss-crossing various US and Canadian borders, we made it out to Portland, Oregon. I must have seen an ad for Tull's show at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland. I convinced Pete to attend the show. We had decent seats. Here is the surreal part of my story - at a certain point during the show I decided to head down towards the stage!!! Nobody stopped me and I was able to witness Jethro Tull (circa 1976) from a couple of feet away for several songs. Thinking back on it, it seems like I was on another planet for a while.

Max Quad surreal Tull experience #2 of 138 - After 1976, I took a break from buying new Tull releases. I did take in two excellent shows - 1984 and 1989 at The Meadowlands in NJ. The 1989 show is the much debated, "did Eddie Jobson appear" show. Anyway, my interest was starting back up in 1991, after hearing the grammy winning COAK, the Catfish Rising LP and the subsequent radio Catfish appearances. I ended up winning two tickets to the show from WNEW FM at NYC's newly opened Paramount Theater (the former Felt Forum) in the belly of Madison Square Garden. I brought my chum Paul, who happened to be the brother of the aforementioned Pete, to the show. We ended up with decent seats from WNEW. Well, while waiting for the opening band to take the stage, some guy approached us and asked if we wanted to sit in his FRONT row seats that he bought from a ticket scalping agency. The seats were directly in front of big speakers stage right. We decided to make the swap. After sitting in the seats for about 5 minutes, the usher asked to see our tickets. At first I thought we were scammed. As it turned out, the front row seats were in the center of the orchestra. The venue was so new, that even the ushers were having trouble escorting patrons to their correct seats. Bingo front row center for Tull in 1991. As it turned out, the performance was mediocre, Ian was not feeling well that night. I have the photos to prove it. Surreal man!!!

I've probably told bits and pieces of these stories before, but here is #3. Summer 1971. I'm 15 years old. My first ever LP - Aqualung, was purchased at the recommendation of my sisters friend, who happened to work at a record store. I kept returning the LP, because every copy was skipping on the record player I used!! I'm sure it was because the tone arm was not set properly or the needle was bad. Anyway, I finally got a copy that played all the way through. It was surreal listening to music that was totally unique to anything I had ever heard. I instantly went out and bought the first three LP's. From TAAB to TOTRNRTYTD, I bought every LP on the day of it's release. Surreal man!!!

Hey, here's one. I needed ''Catfish Rising'' remastered. I had a dream that a used copy was at Earshot Records, where I buy things from time to time, but it didn't have a price on it. The following morning I went and there it was right where I had dreamed it was. I told the clerk what I had dreamed and said since it didn't have a price on it in my dream, could I have it free. He said that was a dream. Surreal Man!

I remember seeing some cheesy tv special years ago where a woman found her lost wedding ring the same way.
