[/iquote author=admin board=lyrics thread=33 post=153 time=1252960960]Every time I hear Farm on the Freeway I think of Dan and his daughter. I think she was 9 when she told me that song was her favorite Tull song. That was a good time meeting you, Billy Fingas and Holly! My daughter was 9 at the time and now that she is 14 and in High School and I'm sure her return on ebay is considerably less now. However, checking her Ipod library, between the Jesse McCartney's, Demi Lovato's and David Archuleta's , she still has JT'S Farm On The Freeway, Locomotive Breath, El Nino, Rainbow Blues and Down At The End Of your Road. The latter, I believe is solely for the 'send doggie poo-poos in your morning mail'.[/quote] Hello Dan. Not to change the subject but that reminded me. I did actually see that 89 Tull concert at Hamilton on Youtube a few months ago, or parts of it. Don't have the link at the moment. This is the one you asked me about a few years back. I s'pect you've probably found by now however.

APP, specifically this part: Hail, son of kings make the everdying sign cross your fingers in the sky for those about to be There am I waiting along the sand Cast your sweet spell upon the land and sea. Magus Perde take your hand from off the chain. Loose a wish to still, the rain, the storm about to be. Here am I voyager into life. Tough are the soles that tread the knife's edge. Break the circle, stretch the line, call upon the devil. Bring the gods, the gods own fire In the conflict revel. The passengers upon the ferry crossing waiting to be born renew the pledge of life's long song rise to the reveille horn. animals queueing at the gate that stands upon the shore breathe the ever-burning fire that guards the ever-door. Man son of man buy the flame of ever-life yours to breathe and breath the pain of living, living Be! Here am I Roll the stone away from the dark into ever day. This all probably does NOT mean what I had interpreted it to mean in my own mind but for me the words were meaningful...I listened to it a lot and it seemed to say what I was feeling at the time, a couple of years ago...was going through some hard things...life was just being very hard at the time...then I became pregnant with my daughter...all the issues seemed to resolve themselves...I feel like this also said how I was feeling but helped me as well... So how come I never got this side of you. Seems we always ended up on the silly side things. Seeing another of your post I'm glad you shook off that Lyme mess. I was worried but you never mentioned it again so I didn't.

When he and his buddy got back stage passes during that Catfiish tour. It's on Colin's board if you want to read it. It's good. I was told by some other people before that I didn't look like a Tull fan either...and these guys I think were even a couple years younger than me...I don't get it.... Yes, more like a Duran Duran fan.

It brought back a lot of memories. The Whaler's Dues especially. I have a video of the Toronto show that year. You would not believe the enthusiastic reception Tull got from the crowd. The Rock Island tour featured one of the all-time greatest setlists, because half of the show was material from RI and Crest, and Peggy and Maart were prominently featured. Jeff

For me, my three would be 1. Summerday Sands: It seems to encapsulate a the feelings and a relationship from many, many years ago, and a girl that I have spent far too many more years thinking about and trying to find; 2. Skating away on the thin ice of a new day: for the briillant lines "Well do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the presence tense, or that everybody's on the stage and it sems like your the only person sitting in the audience".... sums up a part of my younger, less confident life; 3. Life's a long song: Simply because it cannot be surpassed in my book as a song that makes me always feel good. [I'd add TaaB as well, but that's a much longer song and a much longer reason....] Yes, how could have I forgotten Life's a Long Song. You're so right, Quizz, that is Tull's ultimate feel good song. It seems like the 'Don't Worry, Be Happy, Because Life is Short' theme was a recurrent one in early Tull. Nothing is Easy and Inside are similar, and I'm sure there are others with that same message, or a similar one. It's only in later Tull where Ian started to send the message that we should, in fact, worry, e.g., Stormwatch, A, Broadsword, etc. Jeff

That 9/11 story is amazing... I know what you mean...on the original Tull board, I don't want to say that it was like these types of conversations were discouraged...but it was kind of like that...know what I mean? Some people aren't into that and that's fine... The Whistler reminds me of an old friend who played the flute. He just died in June from cancer and was 28. Some less deep and more lighthearted meaningful songs to me Mountain Men...well...I like the mountains, reminds me of my first trip with my husband to the mountains...I think I was playing that song Budapest...beautiful..the description of this woman...wow...enough to make me want her....ha! A Time for Everything...not the whole song of course, but the first line or two. Reminds me of how things happen whether we like it or not...like when I became pregnant with my second child a year ago. Surprise! Moths...reminds me of my late teen years in early summer like 1999...when I'd drive around in early summer and listen to Moths and actually see moths flying around as the song played. Loved the song and love the beginning of summer. Heavy Horses...I always wanted a Clydesdale... Wind up, when hubby and I became a couple in 2000, this song was playing...not really a dissection of lyrics...but...works for me! ha Not only did you recover and have one baby, you then had another! God Bless. I have two young boys, ages 6 and 1. Lots of fun. It's interesting to see which songs other fans find meaningful in their own lives. We all have different ones, but A Time for Everything and And Further On are both very important to me, for reasons previously mentioned. The song that has always cheered me up when feeling down is Songs from the Wood. I love the opening lines, "Let me bring you songs from the wood/to make you feel much better/than you could know/dust you down from tip to toe/show you how the garden grows/hold you steady as you go/life's long celebration's here/I'll toast you all in penny cheer." It's a very life affirming song. Always seems to do the trick for me. Jeff

Jeff Yep...wasn't expecting the second one...actually didn't find out I was pregnant until halfway through...yep, I was one of those women. Not planning for him but he wanted to be here with us, so I respect that. Aren't little boys great? Songs from the Wood reminds me of this World Lit class I took in college. And I went to a ren faire for the class for a project that fall. Very songs from the wood-ish. I love on that album the tree stumpt that looks like a record player. too cool.

And that of course could lead to another thread about "favorite Tull lines".

I find it odd though because I've always through that it might have been written around the same time as a batch of songs, Nursie, Slipstream, Dr Bogenbroom and a couple of others which might have voiced Ian's feelings about the declining health of a family member, possibly his father..but then again I might be wrong.

I read To Be The Play back in the late seventies or early eighties, and recall the writer visiting Ian at or near a hospice for which I thought was his ailing father, but I guess not...

I don't know why you never saw this side of me...all you had to do was ask Or....maybe you bring out the silly side, Jeff brings out the philosophical side? I guess I never got around to thinking about asking back then. It was always late and I was mostly delirious. Okay, I'll take silly. God forbid I should ever get serious on you. I'm such a bore. You wouldn't know what to think. Anyway, hope you're feeling better today.

Then there was the St. Patty day thread or my birthday thread saga...or something...that went on for like a million years.
