and............. The Chataeu Disaster Tapes More to come. I wonder how different this will be compared to the Nightcap version. I think the afterwards played flute parts sounded somehow sonically not fitting to the old songs. I would also like to hear the intended vocals in them.

Psyched to see Wilson's band (w Chad Wackerman from Zappa) this April. Wilson is gaining more and more respect from Ian. Being that he's a huge Tull fan (like we are) and having access to this archive of original tulltapes is the best possible scenario I could imagine. He has recently turned down 5.1 projects from ELP to continue working with Ian. I trust he will choose the best material and do his best to convince Ian to put it out. Hopefully the original Chateau de' Paris tapes will properly see the light of day. Possibly be one package with the Passion Play 5.1? I'm pretty excited about this.

I might hold off and wait for the 50th anniversary re-re-re-release of the entire catalog.

Yes Wilson is due around here, and I need to get on it, I've been distracted with work (how silly ) lately. I read this news in a badly translated Spanish interview with Ian, I don't believe that the person that did the translating actually read this news coming from Ian himself which is par for the course. All 3 recording are 5.1 re mixes. He also spoke of his new project saying it will follow a certain "diary" that has been kept on line...... (Gerald's Blog?) I've heard Wilson say that there wasn't a lot to dissect in the ELP recordings, it was pretty straight forward and simple....too simple almost. So there wasn't much room for improvement. He stopped with them to concentrate on our boys. Can't wait!! (Chad Wakermann is my neighbor!! Have talked to him a couple of times and also his wife Naomi Star. She was a singer for a couple few large acts like the Moody Blues, very nice and talented woman. She gave me a hint on speaking with Chad, he dislikes being "Zappas drummer" see his work with Holdsworth, (he 's not living far away either) On that some of that stuff I don't even understand the count. Fantastic players. Carin Dody PS and oops Im letting slip that some of us here listen to something other than Tull!

I certainly just don't consider him "Zappa's drummer" but suppose for those unfamiliar with him it's an easy way to make the point that he's an amazing player! I love Holdsworth and have seen him live with my jaw on the floor. Ever make it out to the "Baked Potato" in L.A. Darin? Saw Virgil Donati with Tony Mcalpine there some years ago. Great place!

Yes of course, Im sure you know hes more than Zappas drummer, that was just a tip in case you cornered him backstage some how and didnt want to turn him off right away. They're (Wilson) playing here in LA, May 10th. Wakermann just played with James Taylor at the Democratic Convention. Dont know if hes been playing elsewhere with him. The Baked Potato, attended numerous times since my teens, little place, huge acts. I saw Holdworth first time with UK, touring the first album, and a couple times since. He is a one of a kind, nobody comes close. A style that's all his. He was coming into a friends welding supply years back buying up coils of copper wire.........he was building a "Tesla powered amp!" This was around the time of the album "Wardenclyfe Tower"....guess he was in a Tesla state of mind. Carin Dody

Great news about the 3 Wilson remasters!
My favorite Tull album is Stand Up - which seems to have been skipped over. The last remaster of Stand Up was really good but I suspect Steve Wilson could take it to a whole new level. Any idea if that could be in the works?
Thanks

I was more excited about the Aqualung remix since the original was really the worst quality of any Tull album in my opinion. He had done a great job with that, but I am more interested in some of the bonus tracks that may come with these releases

Thanks Remasters are taking the original mix and tweaking it. Remixing is going back to the multi track masters and creating a new mix. The reason Stand Up might have been missed is because maybe there isn't a proper multi track master. This Was would have been recorded on four track so there is a good chance Stand Up might of been the same, in which case there wouldn't be much scope for a remix. Or maybe the multi track masters are gone. But great news about the additional remixes, I guess all the 70s albums are likely to get the same treatment.

Benefit needed reworking.
I'm hoping he did it justice.

I read in an XTC forum about Steve Wilson's plans - he will not do any more ELP, but is concentrating on music he loves by King Crimson, Jethro Tull and XTC. He mentioned Benefit, Chateau, amd Passion Play. He is working on XTC's Nonsuch. I like XTC. The man has taste! But APP! I will never have money while Steve Wilson is around!

Geoff Is he re-working all of XTC's stuff, Including the brilliant 'English Settlement'? Hi Quizz, Wouldn't that be nice! Only Nonsuch so far - I think they have access to the master tapes at the moment. ape.uk.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=1417Andy Partridge said "Hi volks, just a quick note to let you know that acclaimed surround sound mixer and artist in his own,Steven Wilson is at present working on a 5.1 mix of NONSUCH.This will be coming out on your favourite label next year. Yay!"I recently bought the double vinyl of English Settlement for the extra songs. Great album cover too! G

Hi Geoff
I'd be interested to know what you think of "Oranges and Lemons", amongst a few friends who like XTC I'm alone in thinking that is is a good album, what's your take?

Pat Yep, really like that album as well. I owned a CD not long after it was released, and a while back picked up the double vinyl, which sounds great! Kind of retro-buying the vinyl. I will now have to drag it out for a play. I almost bought Nonsuch on vinyl, but I just couldn't justify the price!

Very interesting news about SW remixing Tull albums. Part of me feels they should be left as is but the more sensible part of me would love to hear what can be done with these classics. Steven Wilson does not take things lightly
I saw him live last night. It was a bit too highbrow for my taste, much prefer the Porupine Tree stuff.

Well... I don't like the Broadsword remix. I think that the drums are too high in volume. I just don't like it... It's only the Broadsword remix I don't like. Well... you can't win them all... Luckily I still have the old version... sadly though, without the bonus tracks...

Comment from Dave Rees via FB Full Chateau Tapes, including "Sailor", will be with us later this year :-)

If you haven't heard Steven Wilson's latest solo album The Raven That Refused to Sing, I highly recommend it. Wilson's album and Big Big Train's English Electric (Part I released in 2012 and Part II this year) are by far the best albums of the year.
