Hi to all. Has anybody already bought the AVO Session DVD recorded in Basel(Switzerland)during last's year Tour and realized in 09? Michele, do you know whether this has been released yet, or can it only be pre-ordered at this point? I will probably get it because I really did like the 40th anniversary tour quite a bit. It was a return to basic bare bones Tull! As you know, I am not that keen on rushing out and buying all of the many recent live DVDs from the past 10 years. I did get LWTP and Isle of Wight (which is superb), but on the other hand I have not purchased Montreaux or the live album of Ian with the orchestra, because orchestral Tull is really not my cup of tea. What I would gladly spend money on, however, is a brand new, fresh Tull album, or at least a new Ian album after all these years! Jeff

Hi Jeff.I've ordered some copy about two weeks ago and they arrived last friday, very soon, anyway .I've also seen AVO Session DVD in several shops here in Milan.I think it is available everywhere. In PLAY.COM site they say"due to realease 15/02/2010".I don't know why.Maybe they received a lot of orders ;)Probably it will be easier for you to find it in a music shop.If your expectation is a DVD showing the group in this period of it's life and as his best,AVO SESSION in Basel will be the best answer,i'm sure. (And about a new Album, ) :)Michele.

Concerning the impending release of this latest live DVD, a rather disgruntled TalkTull fan today writes:
"i could not zoom in the back of the c.d,but from what i could see the set list is virtually the same as the 92 release /i just can not stomach the fact that this stuff is being put out there /for who?,for the money?,WHY IS THERE NOTHING NEW OR A RELEASE PLAYING DIFFERENT SONGS /What will the theme be for this years tour TOO OLD TO ROCK AND ROLL BUT NOT TOO OLD TO RIP YOU OFF!"
I find it hard to disagree with him. How many similar live DVDs from recent performances are going to be released instead of a long overdue studio album?

Jeff I have to say i agree, I haven't bought any of the "new" gig CD's, similar set lists and uninspired sets. I get more enjoyment watching poor quality videos on youtube, or the excellent pieces put together by tull tapes.

I am with you on that Quizz Kid. The stuff that has been turned out on YouTube, especially by Tull Tapes is outstanding. A lot of work is put into those and the Tull community owes them a debt of gratitude. The Passion Play stuff brings back such great memories. With the lack of pro shot footage from the 71-75 golden years, this may be all we get. Unless of course that fabled Paris footage from 1975 shows up.......

I remember reading an IA interview back in the late 70s where Ian talked of having filmed a lot of concert footage for the soon to come video market. Some of the Paris show came up on NBC's Midnight Special around that time so that would perhaps lead one to wonder why so little has surfaced. I thought surely Youtube would disclose some of that when it appeared. Or else all that filming never happened.

You are probably remembering his interview with Circus magazine, December 1975. Excerpt of the relevant section: Q. Why has Jethro Tull never recorded a live album? IA. Well we did about a month ago in Paris. We recorded and filmed about an hour and ten minutes of selected pieces that in fact we'll do some more work on as soon as we finish this tour. We did it really just to have some material in the proverbial can for an eventual video disc or whatever video media are introduced as a public concern. www.tullpress.com/c9dec75.htmSo it was filmed. Not sure about some of it showing up on Midnight Special though.

But yes, some of that did appear on the Midnight Special, which was hoasted that night by Martin Mull. It was some of the Minstel In the Gallery footage, the song that is, which I think appears elsewhere, though I can't recall at the moment exactly where. Perhaps one of the anniversary videos. Good call mate.

Wow Quiz Kidd, I didn't know it was shown on Midnight Special. There were some great bands on that show. There seems to be some question as to whether that clip was mimed during the sound check to promote Minstrel. Actually, it seems pretty certain that it was mimed, though the following concert was filmed. Check this out: www.youtube.com/user/PaulHartXYZ#p/u/7/bNO5d8l1c10

I only happened to catch the last twenty seconds or so, where they showed Minstrel and a piece of Bungle. I would like to have that Paris show.
