Yeah, you wouldn't want to ruin the music with 'complicated shit.'
All of these articles seem to be from kind of sucky perspectives.
To this day there's still goobers that sit at the show that jump out of their skin when Aqualung is finally played, "It's one we know!"

To this day there's still goobers that sit at the show that jump out of their skin when Aqualung is finally played, "It's one we know!" "Sucky perspectives," that about sums up the music critic climate of those days. I had almost forgotten how clueless and pompous "critics" were in those days, especially in regard to progressive bands. But then the critic, especially then, was nothing more than a lost soul with an opinion. He (usually male) was likey to be a wanna-be who couldn't actually play an instrument, or smart enough to understand that Filling up the LA Forum four nights in a row by tens of thousands of fans who helped in part to send A Passion Play to number one on the Billboard charts would hardly be disinterested and just applauding politely. Obviouly a bloke with an agenda - or possibly an insecurity problem and a need for self importance. The embarrassing thing isn't that he just doesn't get it ( he has a right to his opinion ), as much as he boldly displays his ignorance. Odd times those, when the radio played James Taylor, John Denver, Hellen Ready and Leo Sayer whilst the mainstream media all but ignored the bands that were actually filling up the arenas - Zep, ELP, Tull, Pink Floyd. I never understood that. But then what did IA expect the critics to say. Surely he saw this coming, and why would he even care. He was always too aware of critics I think. Even wrote songs about them.

Yeah, I think he tries to pretend he doesn't (didn't) care or let it bother him but he's obviously sensitive as well. ha, did you notice the "complicated shit" person appears to be a woman. He should get back to writing those good songs. I think it was the first one TT posted, at least that author appears to get the premise of APP somewhat. Sometimes you see a critic from then say, "I have no idea what APP is about and it makes no sense, it appears to have no subject at all." Did you see the review in the other thread, where the person could not get away from the fact he thinks every album is APP. haha. I can't read the articles before that...I tried blowing up my screen to 400% and everything.

My favorite Tull review ever was, "Oh dear, sounds like little sister has put the cat through the meat grinder." I don't remember the album, probably APP.

I'm pretty sure we can blame anything bad that has ever happened in the history of the world on APP. lol

NEW MUSICAL EXPRESS August 25 1973 ..................Now Jethro Quit Ah, yes, I remember it well. Me and my mate Steve used to pick up our copies of music rags on the way to school on Thursdays to read on the way to our sports periods. I'd buy "Melody Maker" and he'd buy "NME", someone else would pick up "Sounds". Sometime during the trip to the sports ground down in the wilds of south London we'd swap and between us we'd cover the whole range of news and upcoming gigs This was one of those ocassions I had to buy both. The 'apocolyptic' headline rang out too loudly not to get the news immediately.
