Doane learnt and recorded new material with IA for 20 years or so ANdy also about 15 years or so. Its took IA a long time to work out they couldnt work to his demands then
If you look at Doanes recording CV its mammoth in size ,must be pretty good in the studio after all.
Dont think Andy left on good terms.

Dont think Andy left on good terms. Exactly! I was surprised that Ian felt the need to make those comments. Could it be that the years prior to 2012 the band had got complacent. Surely the buck stops at Ian, he's the one who said there was no point in making albums anymore. Maybe he just couldn't be bothered to push those guys, hence the never ending best of tour rolled on for a decade. Maybe he put up with it knowing those guys would be out of a job otherwise until he eventually had enough. I mean he did kinda come to the no more Tull announcement last week over a couple of years and gradual distancing. Speaking of Andy's departure, did anyone ever spill the beans? I remember the very amusing captain mannering photos that circulated when he departed. Anyone have a copy? They have since disappeared but spoke volumes. Ian never said anything about Andy's departure and there was even a plug for Andy's album on the Tull site. Just seems odd that Ian has taken a shot now! And as for Doane, I know Ian's been unhappy about how loud he plays but I've only ever read praise from Doane and neither he or Andy have publicly slagged Ian as far as I know. Just all seems a little odd to me.
I'm interested why Ian felt the need to say such things. Is he bitter about something? Is there more to this? Perhaps explaining why for so long there was no new material.
I seem to remember IA being slightly disingenuous towards ex Tull members. Even Barriemore Barlow's drumming got it at one point.

Hi Mix, I had a fairly lengthy discussion last year with Martin and he mentioned the Tull gig he turned down. I've never spoken about before because I didn't want the Tull Board to spark any controversy between the two. Martin was pissed because a) the call to play with Ian came from James and b) the rehearsal period set aside for him was unacceptable. Hey TM, I can understand not wanting to stir the hornets nest here but to be fair, both Ian & Martin have publicly aired their views on the pretty much official fan club mag so as fans it seems like fair game to discus their comments. Shit happens in relationships and Ian and Martin are kinda like an old married couple who have recently separated. They'll spat at each other and make snide remarks but when it all boils down they still love and respect each other. I understand Ian's position but he does have a record of giving people the cold shoulder at times. We all tend to see Martin as the victim but I suspect they are both as bad as each other. Truth is we just wanna see them work together again someday. I have no problem commenting on things that are already out there but out of respect to everyone, I'm not putting anything out there simply because that was not the purpose of our discussion. While I've been very critical of Ian since the early 2000's I don't blame him solely for the split. It was obviously time...
