Revisiting this bonus disc this afternoon. It's all fantastic. Especially the Wondering' Aloud/Again....
Wish something similar could have been put together for the TAAB re-release...

I had a listen to the Blu Ray bonus tracks tonight, some in 5.1. I like the quiet intro to Life's A Long Song, then halfway though, it's all around you! Wondring Aloud/Again is just great.

I have the 40th anniversary 2-cd special edition, remix by Steve Wilson -- is this the same thing?? Figured I should revisit Aqualung before moving on to Warchild, since I have the 2nd disc. I was listening in my car on the way to work last week, and on comes Wond'ring Aloud, Again. WA is one of my favorite songs (indeed the three little acoustic songs on Aqualung are pretty much just perfect, exquisite moments), so I was really paying attention to the lyrics. I wouldn't have thought that a song referencing bubbling excrement, decaying slime, and government lackeys would then go on to wrench my heart out of my chest, but it did. You know, the poor daffodil, and it's only the taking -- it just broke my heart. I had to fix my makeup in the parking lot when I got to work. I keep thinking about this song... there are some seriously disturbing images, in lines like "and those with no sandwiches, please get off the bus" and especially "and those with no homes to go to, please dig yourselves holes." But the overall loving, deeply personal sentiment is so beautiful and touching, bracketing as it does the bleak vision of the workings of the outside world -- I think this is one of Ian's most important messages. Aside from being utterly emotionally devastated and consumed by WAA, there are other great things here. I have always liked this version of Lick Your Fingers Clean, and wonder why it did not make it onto the album! Life is a Long Song of course is fantastic. I like the little vignette of Up the Pool, but don't know if we needed 2 versions of it. Dr. Bogenbroom is scathing.

I think if I had to choose a desert island disc, it would have to include Wond'ring Aloud, Again. Every time I hear it, it sounds as fresh as the first time I heard it. I'm glad someone else loves it as much as I do.Geoff

The quad album should have been included on the 2 cd 40 year version. Hymn 43 and My God quads are the only cool versions of those songs imo

hi Geoff - yes, i really do love it, i can't even describe how much. Cecil, this is what i have: > click < unfortunately i don't have a good home system to listen to music at the moment, but it actually does sound great in my car! haha, seriously, even in the car i can hear the difference in the mix. in other news, i have since reconsidered my above stance on the inclusion of two versions of Up the Pool, and i've come to embrace both. and i really enjoy the jazziness of From Later. definitely glad i picked this up!

That's the one I have. I also found a download of the quad album from the expanded box set version. Hymn 43 is probably 20% better as a quad imo. The vocals are toned down and have reverb to them . My God is better as quad also. The grinding vocal moments are layered and are better to listen to. Check them out on YouTube although the quality probably isn't perfect

The quads are on cd. Sound fine on my CD player lol. You can hear the vocals are a fair bit different. The sound quality on this YouTube isn't the best though

I always found the vocals on the original a bit annoying so I never listened to it but the quad version is becoming one of my fave songs from the album
