All I know is the last time I visited the Palace Theater I was harassed by a security guard for being a bit too exuberant and was held in a room with Mothfairy's hubby and bruised fruit. And that was before the show began.

Terrific show in Albany the other night. I did not expect that at all. The band was flawless, and Ian sung with more power and range than he has in twenty years. Without question the best singing performance I have seen from him in the last two decades, and I have been to 50 + shows during that time. It's as if he had vocal node surgery or something. He also altered the way he sang certain things, notably the alternating verses that he sung in Teacher; he changed some of the notes, but it worked very well. The vocal harmonies on With You There to Help Me were very effective, and for this tour in particular, the alternating singing verses between Ian and Ryan really meshed. Ian was very energetic, the sound quality was terrific....it was simply a killer show.
This was also the best performance of the Ian Anderson Band that I have ever seen. There were really no glitches. Ian's flute-playing was excellent, although I believe that he was using back-up tapes at times for some of the flute. I even liked Florian's playing much better than I have in the past, he was very, very good, although there were still moments when I found his "shredding" style of playing a thousand notes a second unsuitable for the Tull material. I still miss Martin up there.
As has happened in the past, just when I think they are done, they pull me back in.

Great party up there, too, with Paul, Dennis, Dan, Rob Scollo, Barry G and Laura, and the boys from the band. We had some great laughs.
And of course a huge thanks to Danno, who treated us to the tickets and was the life of the party as usual!

I also thought the band played one of the more lawless shows that I have seen in a while. The harmonies with Ryan were on the money and I think this is first I may have seen them without Ian messing up one of the lyrics. As much as I have moaned about the latest cd, I still wish they had played it in its entirety. They even whittled down the H.E. set by excluding After These Wars. I have never been a big fan of the song, "Too Old....." but I really liked it this time. Ryan brought much energy to the show and Ian was in fine form and enjoyed Ryan playing the cymbals on "Song From The Wood." Looking forward to seeing them in Huntington in a few days.

Much of the fun for the past few years has been hanging out with you bastards . She won't see it but I have to give a shout out to my daughter, Mallory for being a good trooper, babysitting her old man and being my designated driver so we could hang out and have fun. A special thanks to Ryan and Scott (and later, Florian) for coming out for a few beers and I'm sure that was the highlight for my girl. Thanks again! Dan

The pre and post concert gatherings were great, and I have to give Ian and his band credit as I thought they were very good - the best I've ever seen them.

I think I would've liked Albany, a smaller group and less chaos...it's hard to do everything right now with a bitty baby. And almost the exact anniversary of 10 years ago, seeing Dan and TM for the first time and the IA encounter, the bananas, etc.

Then we could've gotten a picture...I wish we had gotten a picture the first time...then we could've compared a picture now. Mallory was just a little girl then...and us Tull fans could look at how much older we got...including me. haha. Just like that guy I met last year at 2013 meetup and he's from this board, I can't remember his screenname right now but he was like, "Wow you look different from that picture of you and Andy Giddings" and I said, "Well yeah, that was 9 years ago!" haha
Sorry for the cereal (serial) posting. I haven't posted in months so I'm trying to make up for it.

Just got back from Long Island and the Jethro Tull convention. What a fun time. I couldn't believe how good some of those tribute bands were, Heresy and the Shuffling Madness really rocked. Plus, I was one of the lucky ones who not only got picked via raffle to go to the Ian Anderson sound check, but to meet and greet IA in the flesh (although no flesh was actually pressed). I always thought that if I met Ian, I would say something remarkably profound and express to him how much his music has added to the quality of my life. In real life, however, I was able to muster a "hello" and "thank you," and that was about the extent of my conversational genius. Later, that same evening, Ian and his band rocked and played some Tull stuff that we don't usually hear, like "Teacher" and an extremely long version of "Thick as a Brick." Then, after the concert, all the band members came back to the convention and drank some beers with us (except Ian). I will, in the next few days, post some photos of the grand fete, but too much work to catch up on right now. Hail all well-fellowed lads and lasses encountered who shared the Tull passion for a couple of days! Thank you very much to all of you who worked tirelessly setting this up. Thanks, Phil

Does anyone know what happened to the "professional photos" taken at the Ian Anderson meet and greet? For the lucky "20" of us that were selected via raffle to go meet Ian, a pro photog took pictures and said they would be posted on his website and we could "grab them" at no charge. I have visited his website several times, nothing. Almost going on three months. What gives?
