hello everyone! i am eepie, and i have been enjoying reading all the threads here for a couple of weeks now, so i thought i would join and perhaps contribute in some way. i'm impressed by the astute and honest observations here, as well as the level of civility even when opinions differ!
i guess i am a more recent tull enthusiast, even though i have been hearing them for a long time. i heard the usual standards (you know) on the radio in the 80s and liked what i heard (along with other classic rock stuff), but back then i wasn't really pursuing much of anything -- i did not seek out and buy albums really, i kinda taped songs i liked off the radio to make compilations, but that was as far as it went. during the 90s, tull pretty consistently kept popping up into my field of view, and eventually i found myself in possession of a handful of tapes, cds and even 8-tracks, that were mostly given to me by friends and acquaintances. i had This Was, Stand Up, Benefit, Songs from the Wood, and Heavy Horses, and even Secret Language of Birds. it was an 8-track of Songs From the Wood that really drew me in, and i listened to it A LOT, but for some reason, as much as i enjoyed them back then, i still didn't consider myself a true fan, and eventually my interest waned a bit and i stopped listening and the band just dropped off my radar. for a long time.
until just a few weeks ago, inexplicably out of the blue, i found myself with a rather nagging tull jones. it stayed with me for a few days, so i dug out my handful of cds to listen to in the car. the first one i put in was Stand Up -- and it immediately struck me, i had forgotten just how friggin good this stuff was! but this time around listening to them, i really truly felt it, and even though i was familiar with the music, it was like hearing them for the first time, i mean REALLY hearing them.
WHY did it take me so long to fully appreciate this amazing band??!!! i am kicking myself now for missing out on so many other albums and so many years of shows that i could have seen!!! it kills me that people had been trying to tell me, and it was always right there in front of me... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
has this happened to anyone else here? most of the stories i have read tell of people instantly becoming fanatics-for-life from the first note they heard. WHY DID THIS NOT HAPPEN TO ME!
so frustrating... but i am here now, entirely whole-heartedly! i imagine this is what born-again christians must feel like. i am so grateful to (re)discover tull, even at this late date, and i am quite looking forward to filling the considerable gaps in my album collection, and you know, i am also grateful to have found this forum which is just an incredible resource!

teddy: Seems like everyone trying to figure out " Eat Hermione for lunch" just don't get it. A Popular vegetarian line of food is advertised by a woman named Hermione. You can see the advertisement on line. Thus it is not oral sex with a office girl. Munch.

lclark354: Hello everyone. I recently finished a room addition, and can finally set up surround sound. I've purchased all the Tull sets, except, of course,TAAB. Is there a site where one can purchase & download the 5.1 files? Or, any word on a re-issue?

madjack1959: Hello to everyone from Lexington, Kentucky. Part of what led me here, was mention of Gentle Giant. I've listened to Tull for ages, and then was introduced to GG via Octopus I saw in the record store, and that was my start. I've never seen either "live" :

yellowcab643: I made my way to Hollywood and thought it was very refreshing. The Kaiser Permanente Optometrist there cured my High Blood Pressure. Do I like an unsung westerner - I drove an England truck and had a Texas CDL Styx & Van Halen might have music about me
